The 2023 Soul Train Music Awards took place on November 26, 2023, recognizing the best in soul, R&B and Hip-Hop music. The ceremony will air on BET and BET Her. [3] On November 1, 2023, BET announced the nominees, SZA, Usher and Summer Walker led with nine nominations each; followed by 21 Savage with eight; and Coco Jones and Victoria Monét each having received six nominations. SZA won four awards, including Album of the Year and Song of the Year, followed by Usher with three and Victoria Monét with two. He released his first EP, I on November 9, 2018, and his second EP, II on February 6, 2019. The EPs were part of a series leading up to his debut studio album Painted which was released on May 24, 2019. His third EP, Table for Two, won the 2022 Grammy Award for Best Progressive R&B Album. His second album, Candydrip, was released on March 10, 2022, preceded by the commercially successful single "Over". His third and latest album, Algorithm, was released on June 28, 2024. The album is currently nominated for Best R&B Album at the 2025 Grammy Awards.
Summer Marjani Walker is an American R&B singer-songwriter. Born and raised in Atlanta, she signed with the local record label Love Renaissance, an imprint of Interscope Records in late 2017. The following year, she released her debut commercial mixtape Last Day of Summer (2018), supported by its lead single, "Girls Need Love." The song became her first entry on the Billboard Hot 100 and spawned a remix featuring Canadian rapper Drake. The song was produced by D'Mile, Jeff Gitelman and Deputy and co-written by them alongside Monét, Kyla with additional credits to Chalie Boy. The song became Monét's first entry on the Billboard Hot 100 since her 2019 collaboration "Monopoly" with American singer Ariana Grande, entering at number 98 and peaking at number 33, becoming Monét's first top 40 hit.
