The 2025 FIBA Women's AmeriCup will the 18th edition of the FIBA Women's AmeriCup, which is the main tournament for senior women's basketball national teams of the FIBA Americas. It will be held from 28 June to 6 July 2025 in Santiago, Chile. [1]

Contents

The top six teams will qualify for one of the qualifying tournaments for the 2026 FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup.

Brazil are the defending champions.

Host selection

On 22 May 2024, two weeks after receiving the 2024 South American Women's Championship, [2] Chile was awarded the hosting rights for the 2025 FIBA Women's AmeriCup. [3] [4] [5] This will be Chile's second time hosting the event after 2007 in Valdivia.

Qualifying took place between August and November 2024, consisting of two tournaments: the 2024 South American Championship for South American teams and the 2024 Centrobasket for teams from Central America and the Caribbean. In total, 17 countries took part in both competitions. Canada and United States were given automatic tickets to the tournament.

Overall, eight of the ten teams that participated in 2023 are present. As hosts, Chile qualified for the first time since 2015, while El Salvador qualified for their second appearance after missing out on 2023. [6] Dominican Republic qualified for their fourth consecutive time for the first time ever. Cuba and Venezuela miss out having taken part in 2023.

Format

The ten teams will split into two groups of five teams. The top four teams per group will qualify to the quarterfinals. A first-placed team will face off against the fourth-placed team and a second-placed team will battle against a third-placed teams. A knockout-system will be used after the preliminary round.

The 2022 FIBA 3x3 AmeriCup – Men's tournament is the second edition of this continental championship. The event was held in Miami, United States. It was contested by 18 teams.

The 2024 South American Women's Basketball Championship, branded as FIBA South American Women's Championship Chile 2024 was the 38th edition of the tournament. Nine teams featured in the competition, held at the Centro de Deportes Colectivos in Santiago, Chile, from 31 August to 7 September 2024. The top three teams qualified for the 2025 FIBA Women's AmeriCup besides Chile who automatically qualified as host.
