The aircraft involved was a Cessna C650 private jet owned by the Jet Pro company. [2] [3] The plane was carrying 8 passengers and 2 crew. [4] [5]
The flight took off from Acapulco and was intended to land at Toluca Airport. [2]
The plane was described as having been spinning out of control shortly before the crash. [1]
The crash occurred after the aircraft attempted to perform an emergency landing on a football field located roughly 800 m (2,600 ft) from the Toluca International Airport runway, [6] in the municipality of San Mateo Atenco, 3 km (1.9 mi) from the airport. [2] [4] However, the plane instead hit the metal roof of a nearby truck maintenance warehouse storing fuel and gas, resulting in the aircraft exploding. [1] [2] [6] The crash occurred at 12:31 p.m. local time (6:30 p.m. UTC). [3]
All 10 people on board the plane were killed in the crash. Among the deceased were three minors. [1] [2]
The crash caused a major fire, as the warehouse had been storing fuel and gas tanks. Around 130 people were evacuated as a precaution due to the fire. [2]
The Attorney General's Office launched an investigation into the crash. [2]
