The Dominican Republic has gone through 39 constitutions, more than any other country, since its independence in 1844. Although technically different from each other in some particular provisions, most new constitutions contained only minor modifications of those previously in effect. Sweeping constitutional innovations were relatively rare.

María de los Ángeles Trinidad de Moya Pérez, known as just Trina de Moya, was a Dominican Republic poet and writer. She served as the First Lady of the Dominican Republic as the wife of President Horacio Vásquez for three nonconsecutive terms. De Moya was the first Dominican presidential wife to be called "first lady", a title which came into widespread public usage during her third tenure from 1924 to 1930.
