The 31st Golden Rooster Awards were held in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia, China, and broadcast by CCTV Movie Channel. Nominees and winners are listed below, winners are in bold. [1]

I Am Not Madame Bovary was the biggest winner, receiving three awards, including Best Director, Best Actress and Best Supporting Actor. Saving Mr. Wu won two awards including Best Editing and Best Supporting Actor. Deng Chao won the Best Actor award and Fan Bingbing won the Best Actress award. [2]

The Golden Rooster Awards are film awards given in mainland China. The awards were originally given annually, beginning in 1981. The name of the award came from the year of the Rooster in 1981. Award recipients receive a statuette in the shape of a golden rooster, and are selected by a jury of filmmakers, film experts, and film historians. The awards are the Chinese equivalent to the American Academy Awards.

Dayyan Eng, known as Wu Shixian in China, born in Taiwan in 1975, is a Chinese-American filmmaker of Chinese, English, and Persian ancestry, who grew up in three continents. He studied film arts at the University of Washington and transferred to the Beijing Film Academy, where he finished his undergraduate studies in directing. Eng started his career directing numerous TV commercials and music videos for the Asian market before he segued into films. Eng first won awards and recognition at the Venice Film Festival, Sundance and Cannes film festivals for his film Bus 44, and for his acclaimed romantic-comedy Waiting Alone. Eng is the first American to direct a Chinese feature film; the first foreign director invited into the China Film Director's Guild; and made history as the first and only foreign director to date to have a film nominated for Best Picture at the Chinese academy awards. In addition, Eng's films have also garnered accolades and awards for the actors he's worked with, which have included top stars in Asia and Hollywood.

Cell Phone is a 2003 Chinese comedy-drama film directed by Feng Xiaogang and starring Ge You, Zhang Guoli, Xu Fan and Fan Bingbing. It was first released on 18 December 2003 in mainland China and was subsequently screened at the Cleveland International Film Festival on 18 March 2005. With box office earnings of over ¥50 million, Cell Phone became the highest-grossing domestic film in 2003.

The 28th Golden Rooster Awards was an award ceremony honoring the best Chinese language films of 2010–11. The award ceremony was held in Hefei, Anhui Province. I Am Not Pan Jinlian, known in English as I Am Not Madame Bovary, is a 2016 Chinese comedy film directed by Feng Xiaogang and written by Liu Zhenyun, based on Liu's 2012 novel I Did Not Kill My Husband. The film stars Fan Bingbing, Zhang Jiayi, Yu Hewei, Dong Chengpeng and Guo Tao. It was selected to be screened in the Special Presentations section at the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival. and won the award for Best Achievement in Directing at the Asia Pacific Screen Awards. It was released in China on 18 November 2016.

Zhang Li is a Chinese director and cinematographer best known for his directorial works Towards the Republic (2001), Ming Dynasty in 1566 (2006), Memories In China (2007), The Road We Have Taken (2008), and Young Marshal (2014).

Wu Yanshu is a Chinese actress. Wu is considered a National Class-A Actor in China.

Sun Weimin is a Chinese actor best known for typecasting Zhou Enlai in film and television. He first garnered recognition for his acting in 2013, when his performance in The Story of Zhou Enlai and earned him a Best Actor nomination at the 29th Golden Rooster Awards. In 2018, he starred in the television series My Uncle Zhou Enlai, which propelled him to become one of the most famous actors in China, and he was nominated for Outstanding Actor Award at the 31st Flying Apsaras Awards.
