The 38th Artios Awards , presented by the Casting Society of America, honoring the best originality, creativity and contribution of casting professionals to the overall quality of a film, television series, short form project and theatre production, were held on March 9, 2023, simultaneously at The Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles and Edison Ballroom in New York, being the first time in two years that the ceremony was an in-person event. The nominations for the television, short form project, and theatre categories were announced on October 17, 2022. [5] The nominees for the film categories were announced on January 10, 2023. [6] Yvette Nicole Brown and Amber Ruffin both hosted the event simultaneously. The latter hosted in New York while the former hosted in Los Angeles; Brown previously hosted the first virtual awards ceremony in 2021 and was on hand to host the organization's first in-person gala in two years. [1] [2] [3] Simone Bär posthumously received the European Capelier-Shaw Award for Excellence in Casting. [1]

The Casting Society, formerly known as Casting Society of America (CSA), was founded in Los Angeles, California, in 1982 as a professional society of about 1,200 casting directors and associate casting directors for film, television, theatre, and commercials in Canada, Europe, Australia, Asia and Africa, and the United States. The nonprofit organization announced the name change from Casting Society of America to Casting Society on February 10, 2022. The society is not to be confused with an industry union. The International Brotherhood of Teamsters represent most of the major casting directors and associate casting directors in Hollywood. The Artios Award for Outstanding Achievement in Comedy Pilot Casting is an award handed out annually by the Casting Society of America. It was introduced at the Art Directors Guilds' twelfth annual honors, in 1996, after first being grouped together with casting for dramatic pilot episodes for the category Outstanding Achievement in Pilot Casting, which was introduced at the seventh annual awards in 1991. It is an award that is given to casting directors for their work on television pilot episodes, or a series first episode.

It was originally scheduled to be held on March 17, 2022.

The 27th Critics' Choice Awards were presented on March 13, 2022, at the Fairmont Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles, California and the Savoy Hotel in London, honoring the finest achievements of filmmaking and television programming in 2021. The ceremony was simulcast on The CW and TBS, and hosted by Taye Diggs and Nicole Byer; this was Diggs' fourth consecutive time as host. The television nominations were announced on December 6, 2021. The ceremony was broadcast on The CW and hosted by Chelsea Handler, taking over the reins from Taye Diggs who had hosted the show consecutively in the previous four years.

The 22nd AARP Movies for Grownups Awards, presented by AARP: The Magazine, honored films and television series released in 2022. Created by and about people over the age of 50, the ceremony was held on January 28, 2023, at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Los Angeles and hosted by Alan Cumming for the third time; the event was broadcast on PBS' Great Performances on February 17, 2023. This was also the first ceremony in four years to not present the Best Buddy Picture category. Nominations were announced on December 15, 2022, with The Fabelmans leading with six nominations. The 27th Art Directors Guild Excellence in Production Design Awards, honoring the best production designers in film, television and media of 2022, was held on February 18, 2023, at the InterContinental Hotel in Los Angeles, California.
