The 491st Fighter-Bomber Squadron is an inactive United States Air Force unit. Its last assignment was with the 84th Fighter Group at Harding Field, Louisiana, where it was inactivated on 1 April 1944.

History

The squadron was first activated at Hunter Field, Georgia in February 1942 as one of the four original squadrons of the 84th Bombardment Group. The squadron was briefly equipped with the Vultee V-72 Vengeance, but after experimenting with that unsuccessful aircraft, re-equipped with the Douglas A-24 Banshee The squadron acted as an operational and replacement training unit from late 1942 until disbanding in 1944. 84th Combat Sustainment Group Military unit

The 84th Combat Sustainment Group is an inactive United States Air Force (USAF) group last assigned to the 84th Combat Sustainment Wing at Hill Air Force Base, Utah, where it was inactivated in 2010. The group was formed in 1942 as the 84th Bombardment Group, one of the first dive bomber units in the United States Army Air Corps and tested the Vultee Vengeance, proving that aircraft unsuitable as a dive bomber. As an Operational Training Unit, it was the parent for several other bombardment groups, but from 1943 until it was disbanded in 1944, trained replacement aircrews as a Replacement Training Unit designated the 84th Fighter-Bomber Group.

The squadron was reconstituted as the 465th Tactical Fighter Training Squadron in 1973 and briefly operated the General Dynamics F-111 Aardvark at Cannon Air Force Base, New Mexico. It moved to Holloman Air Force Base, New Mexico and operated as a fighter and academic training unit until inactivating in 1991.

515th Strategic Fighter Squadron Military unit

The 515th Strategic Fighter Squadron is an inactive United States Air Force unit. Its last assignment was with the 407th Strategic Fighter Wing stationed at Great Falls Air Force Base, Montana, where it was inactivated on 1 July 1957.

385th Bombardment Squadron US Air Force squadron

The 385th Bombardment Squadron was a United States Army Air Forces unit active during World War II. After training in the United States, it deployed to the China-Burma-India Theater, but was disbanded shortly after arriving in India. The 785th Tactical Fighter Squadron was activated along with the 32nd Tactical Fighter Wing at George Air Force Base, California in April 1964. However, in July 1964, the 8th Tactical Fighter Wing replaced the 32d Wing and the 785th transferred its personnel and equipment to another squadron. The two squadrons were consolidated in 1985 as the 785th Tactical Air Support Training Squadron, but the consolidated squadron has not been active.
