The 88th Motor Rifle Division was a division of the Soviet Army, first formed in May 1957.
In May 1957 the 88th Motor Rifle Division (First Formation) was established at Belgorod-Dnestrovsky, Odessa Military District, in Ukraine from the 14th Rifle Division. It was redesignated the 180th Motor Rifle Division in November 1964. [1]
In 1980 it was reestablished at Kushka, Turkestan Military District, to replace the 5th Guards Motor Rifle Division which had been dispatched to Afghanistan. In 1982 it came under the control of the 36th Army Corps.
In March 1989 it absorbed the returning 5th Guards Motorised Rifle Division, without inheriting any awards.
In May 1992 it was reportedly taken over by Turkmenistan. It may now be the Turkmen 11th Motor Rifle Division.[ citation needed ] Kushka is now known as Serhetabat.
The 144th Guards Yelnya Red Banner Order of Suvorov Motor Rifle Division is a motorized infantry division of the Russian Ground Forces, reestablished in 2016 with its headquarters at Yelnya.
The Volga–Ural Military District was a military district of the Russian Ground Forces, formed on 1 September 2001 by the amalgamation of the Volga Military District and the Ural Military District. The headquarters of the Ural Military District, located at Yekaterinburg became the new headquarters of the merged district. In 2010 the District was merged with part of the Siberian Military District to form the new Central Military District.

The Transbaikal Military District was a military district of first the Soviet Armed Forces and then the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, formed on May 17, 1935 and included the Buryat Republic, Chita Oblast, and Yakutia. Chita was the headquarters of the district. It was finally disbanded on December 1, 1998 by being amalgamated with the Siberian Military District, though Chita remained the headquarters of the new amalgamated district.
The 14th Rifle Division was an infantry division of the Red Army, formed twice. Formed in Moscow in 1922, the division spent most of the interwar period at Vladimir. After moving to the Kola Peninsula during the Winter War, the division fought on that front during the Continuation War. After the end of the Continuation War it became the 101st Guards Rifle Division. The division reformed in 1955 from the 180th Rifle Division but became the 88th Motor Rifle Division in 1957.
The 63rd Guards Rifle Division was a Soviet division during World War II. Among other operations, it fought in the Battle of Tali-Ihantala from June 25 to July 9, 1944, during the Continuation War.
The 5th Guards Zimovnikovskaya order Kutuzov II degree Motor Rifle Division, named on the 60th anniversary of the USSR, was a military formation of the Soviet Ground Forces. It was formed from the 6th Mechanized Corps created in 1940 and destroyed in 1941 in the beginning of Operation Barbarossa. The corps was reformed in November 1942 under the same name, but with a different organizational structure. In early 1943, the 6th Mechanized Corps was granted "Guards" status and became the 5th Guards Mechanized Corps.
