The 197th Motor Rifle Division was a motorized infantry division of the Soviet Army. The division was based in Uryupinsk and existed from 1966 to 1987. In 1987, it became a territorial training center. The training center became a road construction training brigade in 1990. [1]
The division was activated on 27 June 1966 in Uryupinsk, Volgograd Oblast, part of the North Caucasus Military District. The division replaced the 68th Motor Rifle Division, which was transferred to Central Asia. It is known to have included the 187th Motor Rifle Regiment, 182nd Tank Regiment and 1206th Antiaircraft Artillery Regiment. Between 1973 and 1977, the division was commanded by future major general Yan Lyufi (ru:Люфи Ян Кичо), an ethnic Albanian serving in the Soviet Army. [2] The 34th Army Corps was activated in May 1980, and the division became part of it. During the Cold War, it was maintained at 15% strength. On 1 December 1987, it became the 881st Territorial Training Center. The training center became the 345th Road Construction Training Brigade in 1990. [1]
The Leningrad Military District was a military district of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. In 2010 it was merged with the Moscow Military District, the Northern Fleet and the Baltic Fleet to form the new Western Military District. In December 2022, Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu proposed to reestablish it along with the Moscow Military District, a decision confirmed in June 2023 by Deputy Chief of the General Staff Yevgeny Burdinsky.
The North Caucasus Military District was a military district of the Russian Armed Forces from 1992-2010. Before 1992 it had been part of the Soviet Armed Forces since 1918. In 2010 it became the Southern Military District and lately also included the Black Sea Fleet and Caspian Flotilla.

On the division's formation Colonel M. I. Zaporozhchenko took command, who stayed with the division until February 1943. Its second commander was Major-General G. P. Karamyshev from February 1943 up to the end of the war.

The 197th Infantry Brigade is an active Infantry brigade of the United States Army. The brigade was active as an Organized Reserve unit from 1921 to 1942, in the Regular Army from 1962 to 1991, and as a TRADOC training unit from 2007 to 2013. The brigade saw service in Operation Desert Storm with the 24th Infantry Division. On July 31, 2020, the brigade was activated as a training brigade in Fort Moore, Georgia, to serve the increased training needs of the army.

In 1987, it became a territorial training center and a storage base soon after. It was disbanded in 1996. The unit was based at Tambov.
The 24th Tank Division was a tank division of the Soviet Union, formed twice. The division's first formation was formed in the spring of 1941 and fought in the Leningrad Strategic Defensive before being broken up into two smaller brigades. The division's second formation was originally formed in 1956 as the 24th Heavy Tank Division and became a regular tank division in 1957. It became a training division in 1960 and was redesignated the 54th District Training Center in 1987 before being disbanded in 1995.
