"A Lickpenny Lover" is a short story by O.Henry, with his usual twist ending. This story was published in 1908.
Like many of O. Henry's stories, this story too explores the connection between love and money in people's relations. A 29 year old millionaire Irving Carter visits a store named "Biggest Store" and immediately falls in love with one of the 3,000 sales girls there - an 18 year old beautiful blonde Masie. He requests her to meet him outside shop and she agrees. Masie is as poor, as Irving is rich, and marrying him would be dream of any girl. In one of their meetings, as Irving promises her to show the world after marriage, she gets up - as if fed-up - and calls off the meeting. The next day, she tells one of her friends at the store that she has ended her relationship with Irving because he wanted to take her to Coney island after wedding. [1]
Once again, this is a very difficult story to interpret, and has many layers of meanings. A simple and very basic interpretation is that when Irving was surmising about taking her after wedding to the temples of India, the Japanese gardens and the camel trains and chariot races in Persia, she simply thought he wanted to take her to Coney island. That is as far as she could see and understand the world - she being too poor. [2] In this interpretation Masie is seen as a girl, for whom money was more than love. She wanted more than just going to Coney island.
Another - a more sublime - interpretation is that Masie never found any hint of love in Irving's talks. She found only a "show-off" and so she spurned him, knowing fully well that she was rejecting a real rich person as a possible husband. She did not want money - she wanted love. So she rejected him.
Interestingly in each interpretation the character of Masie is interpreted in a diagonally opposite manner. In the first interpretation she comes out as a mean girl, who wants money more than love. In the latter interpretation, she comes out having a sublime character, who wants love more than money.

On the Town is a musical with music by Leonard Bernstein and book and lyrics by Betty Comden and Adolph Green, based on Jerome Robbins' idea for his 1944 ballet Fancy Free, which he had set to Bernstein's music. The musical introduced several popular and classic songs, among them "New York, New York", "Lonely Town", "I Can Cook, Too", and "Some Other Time". The story concerns three American sailors on a 24-hour shore leave in New York City during World War II, 1944. Each of the three sailors meets and quickly connects with a woman.
Arabian Nights is a 1974 Italian film directed by Pier Paolo Pasolini. Its original Italian title is Il fiore delle mille e una notte, which means The Flower of the One Thousand and One Nights.
Fantine is a fictional character in Victor Hugo's 1862 novel Les Misérables. She is a young grisette in Paris who becomes pregnant by a rich student. After he abandons her, she is forced to look after their child, Cosette, on her own. Originally a beautiful and naive girl, Fantine is eventually forced by circumstances to become a prostitute, selling her hair and front teeth, losing her beauty and health. The money she earns is sent to support her daughter.
The Man with Two Left Feet, and Other Stories is a collection of short stories by British author P. G. Wodehouse, first published in the UK on 8 March 1917 by Methuen & Co., London, and in the US on 1 February 1933 by A. L. Burt and Co., New York. All the stories had previously appeared in periodicals, usually The Strand Magazine in the United Kingdom and The Red Book Magazine or The Saturday Evening Post in the United States.
Stephen Gottlieb is a fictional character from the Australian soap opera Neighbours, played by Lochie Daddo. He made his first screen appearance during the episode broadcast on 12 October 1992. Stephen is characterised as a compassionate record store manager. He was introduced into the series as a love interest of Phoebe Bright. Writers created a rushed romance between the pair. Phoebe was mourning her dead boyfriend Todd Landers and pregnant with his child. Despite this the characters were married and cohabiting after two months. Stephen and Phoebe's relationship dominated his main storylines. They included Phoebe's pregnancy dramas, her baby nearly dying and living in fear of their mentally ill lodger Russell Butler.
The Man with the Golden Touch is an 1872 novel by Hungarian novelist Mór Jókai. As Jókai states in the afterword of the novel, The Man with the Golden Touch was based on a true story he had heard from his grand-aunt as a child.
Bazaar is a 1982 Indian drama film directed by Sagar Sarhadi and starring Naseeruddin Shah, Farooq Shaikh, Smita Patil and Supriya Pathak. The film set in Hyderabad, India, highlights the issue of bride buying in India, through the tragedy of a young girl being sold by needy parents to affluent expatriate Indians in the Gulf.
Kituu Sabb Jaantii Hai is an Indian comedy-drama series that aired on Sahara One from 14 November 2005 until 6 April 2007. The show was based on the story of a middle class girl, Katyayini Purohit who fights her way out through a rather different path in an attempt to balance her family and professional life. The show was produced by Manish Goswami.
La Bohème is a 1926 American silent drama film directed by King Vidor, based on the 1896 opera La Bohème by Giacomo Puccini. Lillian Gish and John Gilbert star in a tragic romance in which a tubercular seamstress sacrifices her life so that her lover, a bohemian playwright, might pen his masterpiece. Gish, at the height of her influence with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer studios, asserted significant control over the production, determining the story, director, cast, cinematography, and costume design. In February 2020, the film was shown at the 70th Berlin International Film Festival, as part of a retrospective dedicated to King Vidor's career.
Raman Thediya Seethai is a 2008 Indian Tamil-language drama film written and directed by K. P. Jagan. The film features an ensemble cast including Cheran, Pasupathy, Nithin Sathya, Vimala Raman, Remya Nambeeshan, Gajala, Navya Nair, and Karthika. The music was composed by Vidyasagar with cinematography by Rajesh Yadav and editing by Kola Bhaskar. The film released on 19 September 2008 to positive response and turned out as a success.
Emmeline, The Orphan of the Castle is the first novel written by English writer Charlotte Smith; it was published in 1788. A Cinderella story in which the heroine stands outside the traditional economic structures of English society and ends up wealthy and happy, the novel is a fantasy. At the same time, it criticises the traditional marriage arrangements of the 18th century, which allowed women little choice and prioritised the needs of the family. Smith's criticisms of marriage stemmed from her personal experience and several of the secondary characters are thinly veiled depictions of her family, a technique which both intrigued and repelled contemporary readers.

I Am Rembrandt's Daughter is a 2007, young adult historical fiction novel by Lynn Cullen about the famous artist Rembrandt van Rijn's daughter Cornelia van Rijn (1654-1684). In Cullen's version of the story, Cornelia finds that she is not Rembrandt's daughter, but rather that of Nicolaes Bruyningh, the subject of one of Rembrandt's paintings. The novel was selected by YALSA as one of the Best Books for Young Adults in 2008.
Lady Frederick is a comedy by the British writer W. Somerset Maugham, written early in his career. The play was first seen in London in 1907, and was very successful, running for 422 performances. The title role was played by Ethel Irving. In New York it was first performed in 1908, with Lady Frederick played by Ethel Barrymore, who reprised her role in the play's film adaptation, The Divorcee.

Dulhan is a Pakistani drama serial telecast on Hum TV from 28 September 2020 from 29 March 2021. Produced by Momina Duraid of MD Productions, it stars Sami Khan, Sumbul Iqbal, Faizan Khawaja and Mashal Khan in lead roles. The drama serial aired a weekly episode on Mondays at 8pm.
Fraud is a 2022 Pakistani Thriller drama television series written by Zanjabeel Asim Shah, directed by Saqib Khan and produced by Abdullah Seja under banner iDream Entertainment. Starring Saba Qamar, Ahsan Khan and Mikaal Zulfiqar in lead roles in their second on-screen appearance together after 11 years, the series is set in Lahore and Karachi. It began on ARY Digital on 14 May 2022.
