Major General Abel Kandiho, is a Ugandan military officer. He serves as the Joint Chief of Staff in the Uganda Police Force, effective 9 February 2022. [1]

From 25 January 2022 until 8 February 2022, he was assigned to duty in South Sudan, as a Special Envoy. [2] However, this assignment was reversed and instead he was appointed Chief of Joint Staff of Uganda Police Force. [3]

He previously served as the Chief of Military Intelligence in the Uganda People's Defence Force (UPDF). [4]

Career

It has been reported in the past that Kandiho blames the spate of killings in Ugandan urban areas in the period between 2015 and 2018 [5] to a network of thugs linked to General Kale Kayihura, the former Inspector General of Police. Kandiho "privately accused the former police chief of waging a campaign aimed at depicting the inner towns as ungovernable". [6] Kandiho, in his capacity as the Head of CMI, was one of the people who personally interrogated Kale Kayihura, following his arrest in 2018. [7]

In November 2017, at the rank of colonel and as Commander of the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence, he was promoted to the rank of brigadier. [8] In December 2019, at the rank of Brigadier, Kandiho met with Lieutenant General Jeremiah Nyembe, the South African Military Intelligence chief, for the purpose of sharing information. [9]

Previously, before May 2014, at the rank of lieutenant colonel, he served as the commander of Makindye Military Barracks; the headquarters of the UPDF Military Police. On 30 May 2014, he was replaced in that position by Colonel Emmanuel Kanyesigye. Kandiho stayed on as Deputy Commander. [10]

In 2009, at the rank of major, Kandiho was a military officer at CMI. [11] In 2019, The Independent (Uganda) newspaper reported that Kandiho worked at the Uganda High Commission in Kigali, Rwanda, in the early 2000s, where he had disagreements with Rwandan security forces. [12]

In December 2021, Abel Kandiho, is targeted by United States sanctions the U.S. Department of the Treasury announced. Abel Kandiho's assets in the United States are now frozen. At issue: his alleged involvement in cases of human rights violations. [13] [14]

In January 2022, he was replaced as the Head of Military Intelligence in the UPDF by Major General James Birungi. Kandiho was reassigned special duties in South Sudan. [2]

Lieutenant General Kayanja Muhanga, is Ugandan army officer. He currently serves as Commander Of Land forces in UPDF. He was appointed to that position in October 2022 by the President of Uganda and Commander in chief of the UPDF, Yoweri Museveni. He previously served as commander of the Uganda People's Defence Force contingent in Eastern DRC under operation code named Operation Shujja. He was appointed to that position in January 2021 by General Yoweri Museveni, the Commander in Chief of the UPDF and the President of Uganda. Prior to that, Maj. General Muhanga served as the commandant of the military police within the Uganda People's Defence Force (UPDF).

Major General Richard Prit Olum, commonly known as Dick Olum, is a military officer in the Uganda People's Defence Force (UPDF), who serves as the Ugandan commander of the UPDF forces in the Democratic Republic of the Congo under the joint Uganda/DRC mission code named Operation Shujaa. He also serves as the commander of the UPDF Mountain Division, based in Fort Portal, Kabarole District at the base of the Rwenzori Mountains. His appointment was made on 12 October 2022.

Major General Sam Kavuma, whose full name is Samuel Kavuma, is a Ugandan senior military officer. He currently serves as the deputy coordinator of the Operation Wealth Creation effective 24 June 2021, he was appointed by Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. Immediately prior to his current position, he served as the deputy commander of the Uganda People's Defence Force Air Force. Before that, Kavuma served as the Commander of the Uganda People's Defence Force Contingent in Somalia, as part of the African Union Mission to Somalia. He was appointed to that position in October 2014. He replaced Brigadier Dick Olum, who served in that position from September 2013 until October 2014.

Major General Innocent Felix Oula is a senior army officer in the Uganda People's Defence Force (UPDF). As of March 2020, he serves as the Head of Civil Military Cooperation. He concurrently serves as one of the UPDF representatives to the Parliament of Uganda. He was elected to that position in January 2014, replacing renegade General David Sejusa, who was expelled from Parliament.

James Mugira is a lieutenant general in the Ugandan army. He is the managing director and chief executive officer of the National Enterprise Corporation (NEC), the business arm of the Uganda People's Defence Force (UPDF). He was appointed to that position in April 2015. He concurrently serves as the managing director of Luweero Defence Industries Limited, the small-arms manufacturer owned by the UPDF. He has served in that capacity since 2011. From 2008 until 2011, at the rank of brigadier, he served as the director general of the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence, a division of the UPDF. Before that, he served as the commanding officer of the UPDF Armored Brigade, based in Masaka.

General Joram Mugume, is a military officer in the Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF). He is the chairman of the board of directors of the National Enterprise Corporation (NEC), the business arm of the UPDF. He was appointed to that position by the Uganda Ministry of Defence and Veterans Affairs, on 20 February 2018. He has also served as the chairman of the "Military Land Board", an organ of the UPDF. He has been serving in that position since 2005, having served as Deputy Chief of Defense Forces in the past.

Lieutenant General John Mugume is a senior Ugandan military officer. He currently serves as the General Manager of Defence Forces Shop Limited, the duty-free commissary of the UPDF.

Lieutenant General Charles Lwanga Lutaaya, is a senior Ugandan military officer in the Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF). He a presidential advisor on matters of Airforce. Before that, he was the Commander of the UPDF Air Force after having served as Deputy Commander of the UPDF Air Force.

Major General Gavas Mugyenyi, also Garvas Mugyenyi is a senior military officer in the Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF). He serves as Uganda's military attache to India, effective January 2020.

Joseph Musanyufu, is a lieutenant general in the Uganda People's Defence Force,(UPDF), who serves as the joint chief of staff of the UPDF, the third highest rank in the military who is known to have only one son Musanyufu C junior. Immediately prior to his present position, Musanyufu served as the chief of personnel and administration in the UPDF, a position that he was appointed to in 2014.

Hudson Mukasa is a Major General in the Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF). Since June 2016, he has been the Military Attaché to Uganda's Embassy to Kenya, based in Nairobi. Before that he served as the Military Attaché Uganda's Embassy to Burundi, based in Bujumbura.

James Birungi, is a Major General in the Uganda People's Defence Force Air Force (UPDAF). He serves as the Chief of Military Intelligence in the UPDF, effective January 2022.

Geoffrey Katsigazi Tumusiime, is a Ugandan military officer and diplomat, who serves as the Deputy Inspector General of Police of Uganda, since January 2022. He is a Major General in the UPDF and immediately prior to his current assignment, he served as the Deputy Commander of the UPDF Air Force. Previously,he served as the Defence Liaison Officer at the headquarters of the East African Community, in Arusha, Tanzania.
