The Abkhazia national basketball team is the basketball team of Abkhazia, a partially-recognized state located in Georgia. The team is not affiliated to FIBA, so only plays friendly games.

History

Abkhazia's first match was played on 27 May 2015, as part of a tour of the national team in Northern Cyprus, invited by their federation. [1] The team lost their second match by 47–59, while the third match was cancelled. [2]

The flag of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is the national flag of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and is based on the flag of Turkey, with the colors reversed and two additional horizontal red stripes at the top and bottom. Nicosia Atatürk Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in North Nicosia, Northern Cyprus. It is the largest stadium in Northern Cyprus. It is currently used mostly for football matches and hosted some matches for the 2006 ELF Cup. It also serves as the home of Çetinkaya and Yenicami of the KTFF Süper Lig and Gençlik Gücü of the KTFF Birinci Lig. The stadium holds 15,000 people, and has a tartan track that is used for athletics competitions and for walking by the locals. The stadium also hosts celebrations in national holidays, and dance shows, attended by thousands.

Çetinkaya Türk Spor Kulübü which is also known as "Kırmızı Şimşekler" is a Turkish Cypriot sports club based in North Nicosia. They are the most decorated team in Northern Cyprus.

Football is the national sport of Northern Cyprus. It is governed by the Cyprus Turkish Football Federation, which was set up in 1955. The KTFF oversees the national team and the league system. The top-level national league is the KTFF Süper Lig, followed by the KTFF 1. Lig and the KTFF 2. Lig. The national cup, regulated by the KTFF is the Cypriot Cup. The winner of the league and the cup play the KTFF Super Cup.

Football is a major sport in Abkhazia. During Soviet times, the main club within Abkhazia itself was FC Dinamo Sukhumi, but Abkhazian footballers were prominent in the Georgian team FC Dinamo Tbilisi and in other Soviet teams. In 1994, after its declaration of independence from Georgia, Abkhazia organised a nine-team amateur league.

Türk Maarif Koleji, commonly referred to as Kolej, is a selective secondary education institute in Nicosia, Northern Cyprus. Access to the school is only open to students with top score in a nationwide entrance exam. It is an English-medium school.
