The Northern Cyprus national basketball team is the basketball team of Northern Cyprus. The team is not affiliated to FIBA, so only plays friendly games.

History

Northern Cyprus's first match was played on 25 January 2006, against Kyrgyzstan. The team won by 84–78.

In May 2015, the team played two matches against Abkhazia national team in Northern Cyprus, invited by the TRNC Federation. [1] The team won their second match by 59–47, while the third match was cancelled. [2]

In 2021, the team played two friendly matches against Kyrgyzstan. [3] Northern Cyprus won the first of them. [4]

The flag of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is the national flag of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and is based on the flag of Turkey, with the colors reversed and two additional horizontal red stripes at the top and bottom. The flag was drawn by the Turkish Cypriot artist Emin Çizenel. It was adopted in 1984 by Northern Cyprus, a self-declared state that is recognized only by Turkey, after its unilateral declaration of independence in 1983.

The Northern Cyprus national football team represents Northern Cyprus, a de facto country, in association football. They were a member of the New Federations Board for non-FIFA-affiliated nations, until its dissolution in 2013. Northern Cyprus' home stadium is Nicosia Atatürk Stadium in North Nicosia and their head coach is Fırat Canova. They are the current FIFI Wild Cup champions, having won the event in Germany in June 2006. They are also the current ELF Cup champions, having won the event at home in November 2006.

Nicosia Atatürk Stadium

Nicosia Atatürk Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in North Nicosia, Northern Cyprus. It is the largest stadium in Northern Cyprus. It is currently used mostly for football matches and hosted some matches for the 2006 ELF Cup. It also serves as the home of Çetinkaya and Yenicami of the KTFF Süper Lig and Gençlik Gücü of the KTFF Birinci Lig. The stadium holds 15,000 people, and has a tartan track that is used for athletics competitions and for walking by the locals. The stadium also hosts celebrations in national holidays, and dance shows, attended by thousands.

Çetinkaya Türk S.K. Association football club in Northern Cyprus

Çetinkaya Türk Spor Kulübü which is also known as "Kırmızı Şimşekler" is a Turkish Cypriot sports club based in North Nicosia. They are the most decorated team in Northern Cyprus.

Football is the national sport of Northern Cyprus. It is governed by the Cyprus Turkish Football Federation, which was set up in 1955. The KTFF oversees the national team and the league system. The top-level national league is the KTFF Süper Lig, followed by the KTFF 1. Lig and the KTFF 2. Lig. The national cup, regulated by the KTFF is the Cypriot Cup. The winner of the league and the cup play the KTFF Super Cup.

Football is a major sport in Abkhazia. During Soviet times, the main club within Abkhazia itself was FC Dinamo Sukhumi, but Abkhazian footballers were prominent in the Georgian team FC Dinamo Tbilisi and in other Soviet teams. In 1994, after its declaration of independence from Georgia, Abkhazia organised a nine-team amateur league.

Abkhazia is a de facto independent, partially recognised country lying on the eastern coast of the Black Sea, its southern border. It is bordered by Russia to the north, and Georgia to the east recognised by Russia, Nicaragua, Venezuela, and the de facto independent republics of South Ossetia and Transnistria, in which context it is referred to as the Republic of Abkhazia with Sukhumi as its capital.

Kamil Ahmet Çörekçi is a Turkish footballer who plays as a right back for Süper Lig club Hatayspor.

There are 29 sports federations in Northern Cyprus and 13,838 people registered in them as of 2008. Taekwondo-karate-aikido-kurash is the most popular sport with 6054 athletes. It is followed by association football, shooting and hunting.

Göçmenköy Place in Nicosia District, Cyprus

Göçmenköy is a quarter of North Nicosia in Northern Cyprus. As of 2011, it had a population of 3,003. It was founded in 1966 as a settlement for the Turkish Cypriots displaced by the intercommunal violence. The formerly rural area became heavily urbanized in the 1960s and 70s. Göçmenköy became a vibrant part of North Nicosia, and is home to the Atatürk Sports Complex, which is home to the Nicosia Atatürk Stadium, the largest stadium in Cyprus. It co-hosts an annual international festival.

Muhaymin Mustafa Turkish basketball player

Muhaymin Mustafa is a Sudanese-Turkish professional basketball player for Galatasaray Nef of the Turkish Basketbol Süper Ligi (BSL) and the Basketball Champions League.

The Erkekler Basketbol Süper Ligi and known as the Kıbrıs Vakıflar Bankası Basketbol Süper Ligi due to sponsorship reasons is the top men's professional basketball league in Northern Cyprus. Erkekler Basketbol Süper Ligi was founded in 1981. It is run by the Turkish Cypriot Basketball Federation.

Zehra Borazancı Turkish-Cypriot footballer

Zehra Borazancı is a Turkish-Cypriot women's football midfielder currently playing in the Turkish Women's Super League for ALG Spor with jersey number 22. She is also a successful international football tennis player for her country.

Miray Cin is a Turkish-German footballer, who plays as a midfielder for MSV Duisburg in the German Frauen-Bundesliga, and the Turkey women's national team. She was also a member of the Germany girls' national U15, U16 and U17 teams.
