Abraham Mazumder is an Indian conductor and violinist. He is a former member of the Bengali band Moheener Ghoraguli and has been active in Kolkata's western classical music world since the 1980s.

Career

Abraham Mazumder started learning music in the 1970s under the guidance of Father Theodore Mathieson. He earned ATCL and LTCL degrees in violin.[ citation needed ]

Mazumder began teaching music at Calcutta Boys' School in 1974. In early 1976, he met Goutam Chattopadhyay and became closely associated with his music. Later on he became the youngest member of the band Moheener Ghoraguli. He continued playing with the band until it broke up around 1982. [1] [2]

Since 1983, Mazumder has taught music at La Martiniere for Boys. He formed his own orchestra at the premises of Alliance Francaise de Calcutta (Park Mansion), L'Atelier de Musique in 1983.[ citation needed ]

Now, he has even opened his own music academy called the Abraham Mazumdar Academy in which many kinds of instruments will be taught to students.[ citation needed ] Instruments include, the violin, piano, guitar, and trumpet. Singing is also taught here.[ citation needed ]

Shangbigno Pakhikul O Kolkata Bishayak is the debut album by the Bengali rock band Moheener Ghoraguli. It was released in 1977 by Gathani Records. It was recorded at a local studio in Kolkata during their formation period from 1976 to 1977. The band at the time consisted of Gautam Chattopadhyay, Biswanath Chattopadhyay, Pradip Chatterjee, Ranjon Ghoshal, Abraham Mazumdar, Tapas Das, Tapesh Bandopadhyay. Gautam also served as the band's primary songwriter, though he contributed only one track on the album credited to the band collectively and other tracks were written by Ranjon, Tapas and Tapesh.

It was released in 1995 by Asha Audio at Kolkata. This album is not an original Moheen's album, like their earlier releases. It was released nearly twenty years after the last album by the group had been released in 1979.

Chittrovanu Mazumdar is a contemporary Indian artist of Bengali-Indian and French descent. Written by Ranjon Ghoshal, composed by Gautam Chattopadhyay, and sung by Tapesh Bandyopadhyay, Tapas Das and Ranjon. The lyrics is a call to the people of the city, while bass guitar carry the music. It was one of the band's initial songs such as "Haay, Bhalobasi" and "Bheshe Ashey Kolkata".
