The Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, library was established in August 1980 and it currently supplies 71,415 books, references, journals and dissertation to staffs and students of the University. [1]

History

The Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Library was established in August 1980 with the main objectives to provide strong supports for both teaching /learning process and research. As a citadel of learning, the Library provides Student populace, lecturers and research scholars free and timely access to the most current information and publications in various subject disciplines/field of study. The old building converted from female hostel was moved to a bigger building in 1985 which was launched in November 1990 during the university's first convocation ceremony, during the launch, there were 25,000 volumes of books and 25 personal computers in the library. In 2015, 45 additional wireless desktops were added to the digital section of the library. [1]

Structure

The library is made up of the librarian office, Technical services with the [1] [1] [1] eader's service division been the largest. There is E-library within the main library, other courses and programmes also have their library within the premises of the institution. [2] [3] [4] In 2021, National Insurance Commission donated an E-library with 50 people capacity to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University to promote knowledge acquisition and research work. [5]

Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa was a Nigerian politician who served as the first and only prime minister of Nigeria upon independence. A conservative Anglophile, he favoured maintaining close ties with the British. During his first few years in office as prime minister, Nigeria was a constitutional monarchy with Elizabeth II reigning as Queen of Nigeria, until Nigeria became a republic in 1963. The university is named after Nigeria's first and only prime minister, Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa. The motto of the university is "Doctrina Mater Artium", which means "Education is the mother of the practical arts".

The 2023 Bauchi State gubernatorial election took place on 18 March 2023, to elect the Governor of Bauchi State, concurrent with elections to the Bauchi State House of Assembly as well as twenty-seven other gubernatorial elections and elections to all other state houses of assembly. The election—which was postponed from its original 11 March date—was held three weeks after the presidential election and National Assembly elections. Incumbent PDP Governor Bala Mohammed initially declined to run for re-election, instead running for president. However, after losing the PDP presidential primary in May 2022, Mohammed was renominated in a rerun primary. Mohammed was re-elected as governor by a 9% margin over first runner-up and APC nominee — former Chief of the Air Staff Sadique Abubakar.
