Preguiça, São Nicolau Settlement in São Nicolau, Cape Verde

Preguiça is a settlement in the central part of the island of São Nicolau, Cape Verde. It is situated on the south coast, 6 km south of Ribeira Brava. It served as the port of Ribeira Brava, after the older Porto de Lapa, 6 km to the northeast, had been abandoned in 1653 due to pirate attacks. The settlement was mentioned as Paraghisi in the 1747 map by Jacques-Nicolas Bellin. In 1820 the Forte do Príncipe Real, now ruined, was built to protect the port. Preguiça's port consists of a stone quay and a short mole. Preguiça Airport is located 3 km north of the village.

About the club

The club was founded around the late 20th century and is an affiliate of the Portuguese club Académica de Coimbra.

Associação Académica de Coimbra – O.A.F. association football club in Coimbra, Portugal

The Associação Académica de Coimbra – Organismo Autónomo de Futebol, also referred to as Académica de Coimbra or simply Académica, is an autonomous and professional football organization based in Coimbra, Portugal.

Its logo colors are the same to that of Académica Coimbra's, differences is where it has a P on the left, its club name is on the bottom.

The club became registered in 2011 and played its first season in 2012. It was not the continuation of the club that was Caleijão, it replaced that club as that had financial and material problems. In 2014, the club finished seventh and had 13 points, 3 wins and 4 draws, the club only scored 10 goals and conceded 20 goals, third worst ahead of Desportivo Ribeira Brava. Preguiça started first, then fourth as SC Atlético took it, then fallen to 7th at the fifth round and climbed back to 5th at the 6th round, lost it at the 7th round, then brought it again afterwards and kept it for the remainder of the season. Their positions picked up in 2015 by two and finished 5th with 17 points and had 5 wins and two losses, they scored 16 goals, it equalled to the goals conceded for the club. No additional three points were made and was a probable possibility as one of two April 29 matches were not held, that one featured Ribeira Brava. The club lost a position in 2016 where they finished 6th with 13 goals and had 4 wins, they scored 15 goals, that season, the club started sixth but was fifth from the third to ninth rounds and 7th in rounds 12 and 13. The success had come for Académica Preguiça in 2017, they started third then for two weeks took the number one spot. Their season's first match was a win over Ribeira Brava, two more wins were made over Praia Branca and Talho, the worst clubs of the island, Ultramarina Tarrafal took it and it seemed it for the rest of the season and Académica Preguiça fallen to third, in the next round, second place they would be as they made a win over AJAT'SN on March 11. Académica made another win Ribeira Brava on March 18, followed by a draw with Ultramarina and a scoreless one with Praia Branca. The club was heading for an attempt to win their only title, they defeated Talho and Belo Horizonte in rounds 11 and 12. Their final attempt of being regional champions entirely disappeared as they lost an April 29 match to AJAT'SN and the club was third for a week. The final match of the season defeated the island's greatest club, Atlético 3-1 and the club finished second, their best position and had 28 points and 8 wins which became club record. They scored 22 goals which was less numerous than the island's two most popular clubs.

Académica da Preguiça had the first two matches of the 2017-18 season ended in victories, they defeated the island's weakest clubs of Praia Branca and Talho and has 6 points, second as the club has three goals, three less than Belo Horizonte. In goal totals, it is shared with the island's popular clubs of Atlético Ribeira Brava and Ultramarina Tarrafal. The fourth round match with AJAT'SN originally ended in a victory of 0-1, in the second week of March, Académica was awarded against 3-0 as the club fielded an ineligible player. Surprisingly all matches won. Académica made a draw without goals with Belo Horizonte on February 4. On February 10, no police were at João do Deus Stadium and delayed two matches including their match with Atlético, it was rescheduled for a week and made a two goal draw with that club. Two days later in the seventh round, their only loss of the season to date came as they lost to Ultramarina Tarrafal 1-2 and also lost a position. There was a prediction that a club would make another win, it came true with a win over Praia Branca with the score 1-0 over Praia Branca, then another one over Talho and another over ailing Ribeira Brava and was still second with 20 points. Académcia made a goal draw with AJAT'SN on March 17, then a 2-0 loss to Belo Horizonte and fell to third place with 21 points, they have 13 goals scored. What also lost again, a chance for a regional title. Académica continued their legacy for a planned cup win, on May 17, the semis, they defeated Belo Horizonte 1-3, prevented that club from winning another cup title, three days later, they played with Ultramarina Tarrafal and what lost again, a title, this time, a cup title. Académica's best positiion at the competition became as finalist.
