Associação Jovens Amigos do Tarrafal (acronym or abbreviation: AJAT'SN, Capeverdean Crioulo, ALUPEC or ALUPEK: Asosiason Jovens Amigus du Tarrafal, São Vicente Crioulo: Associação Jovens Amigos d' Tarrafal) is a football club that plays in the São Nicolau Island League in Cape Verde. It is based in the island's second major community but the most populated, Tarrafal de São Nicolau on the island of São Nicolau and plays at Estádio Orlando Rodrigues. The team won their first title in 2007, winning the São Nicolau Cup, their second and recent cup title was won in 2016 after winning in penalty kicks.

The Alfabeto Unificado para a Escrita do Caboverdiano, commonly known as ALUPEC, is the alphabet that was officially recognized by the Cape Verdean government to write Cape Verdean Creole.

Cape Verde or Cabo Verde, officially the Republic of Cabo Verde, is an island country spanning an archipelago of 10 volcanic islands in the central Atlantic Ocean. It forms part of the Macaronesia ecoregion, along with the Azores, Canary Islands, Madeira, and the Savage Isles. In ancient times these islands were referred to as "the Islands of the Blessed" or the "Fortunate Isles". Located 570 kilometres (350 mi) west of the Cape Verde Peninsula off the coast of Northwest Africa, the islands cover a combined area of slightly over 4,000 square kilometres (1,500 sq mi).

São Nicolau is one of the Barlavento (Windward) islands of Cape Verde. It is located between the islands of Santa Luzia and Sal. Its population is 12,424 (2015), with an area of 343 km². The main towns are Ribeira Brava and Tarrafal de São Nicolau.

History

The club first participated in the 2003 season. After winning their first regional cup title, AJAT'SN was the first club from the island to appear in the 2007 Cape Verdean Cup and had no success there. AJAT'SN's single cup total was later shared with Belo Horizonte until 2009 and Atlético from 2008 until 2013, it was also shared with Talho from 2010 until 2016 and Desportivo Ribeira Brava from 2011 to 2016. Their greatest success was second place in the 2015-16 season, the club finished 26 points behind SC Atlético. AJAT'SN won their second and last cup title for the club, their two cup totals was second, shared with Atlético and Ultramarina, a year later, AJAT'SN's totals is now third shared with Atlético's. The 2016-17 season was to have another stint of being in the higher position and a chance of being first place, it thwarted as they started 7th with a loss to Atlético. The season's first win was made over Talho 1-0. Its positions reached fourth, the final round the next time they reached. 6th they would be for the next three rounds, losses what AJAT'SN would have but sixth again at the 9th round, then back to 7th. AJAT'SN got another win over Belo Horizonte on April 9 and the club came fifth again. AJAT'SN lost to Ultramarina Tarrafal after that which was the club's last. The final two wins were made, first to Académica da Preguiça and prevented that club's remaining chance of becoming regional champion and Praia Branca on May 6 and the club finished fourth with 19 points, 6 wins, a draw and 19 goals scored, all less than last season's.

The Taça de Cabo Verde is the main knock-out football tournament of the Cape Verde islands. It started in 1982, it was later revived in 2007 and is played annually. The competition features the winners of each island or regional cup competition and competes into two groups.

Sport Club Atlético is a football (soccer) club based in Ribeira Brava and plays in São Nicolau Island League and had played in the Premier division in Cape Verde. Its current head is Artemiza Ramos and its coach is Pirico who is since January 2017. Also its honorary president is António Manuel Santos. Its nickname is Encarnados, the same nickname of Portugal's SL Benfica.

Futebol Clube Belo Horizonte is a football club that plays in the São Nicolau Island League in Cape Verde. It is based in Juncalinho in the eastern part of the island of São Nicolau.

AJAT'SN started the 2017-18 season with two consecutive draws before their season's first win made on January 21 over Talho. A back to back win were made, a huge 5-0 over the once powerful Ribeira Brava, then over Atlético, inbetween was a loss to Belo Horizonte. AJAT'SN recently made a goal draw on February 25 and is currently fourth behind that club with 12 points.

AJAT'SN's had two appearances at the regional Super Cup without any successes or goals scored, their first appearance was in 2007 and lost to the champion FC Ultramarina with 3-1 in penalty kicks as no goals were scored in the match. AJATSN had their next appearance in nine years and another qualified as Cup Winner, their recent who faced the champion SC Atlético on January 7, 2017 and lost to that club 3-0.

Futebol Clube de Ultramarina is a football (soccer) club that plays in the São Nicolau Island League in Cape Verde. It is based in the city of Tarrafal in the island of São Nicolau. The team has only reached a few of the final games before and after independence.

Originally, AJAT'SN began the following season with two straight draws, in the second week of March, the regional association awarded against club 0-3 in a match with Ultramarina Tarrafal as AJAT'SN themselves fielded an ineligible player. A week later on January 13 , a scoreless draw with Praia Branca without any goals. In mid-March, AJAT'SN was lucky for another win as they were awarded 3-0 in a match against Académica on January 27 as that club fielded an ineligible player. AJAT'SN's last was a 2-1 win over Atlético, their win over that club was rare, recently a repeat of two straight draws came, each with a goal with Ultramarina and Praia Branca and was fourth behind Ultramarina and ahead of Atlético with 15 points at the 9th round. AJAT'SN had another victory as they defeated Talho and remains fourth, its 18 points were shared with Ultramarina alongside five wins and had 17 goals. Two straight two goal draws came up on March 21 and is currently fourth with 21 points.

Its logo features a winged shield, light-peach to caramel-orange coloring on the top and blue on the bottom with a seal with the island on the bottom, in side the seal has a violet-blue on top of a tricolour sash, the middle is colored lavender and the lower part is pale light blue. The club name is read "AJAT" on the top and the "SN", the abbreviation of the location of the club on the bottom.

Stadium

The club plays at Estádio Orlando Rodrigues with a capacity of about 500. The club also trains at the stadium. Other club playing at the stadium is Ultramarina. Other clubs playing at the stadium but not based is Praia Branca, based north of town.

Estádio Orlando Rodrigues is a multi-use stadium in Tarrafal de São Nicolau on the island of São Nicolau, Cape Verde and are one of two on the island. It is currently used mostly for football matches and is the home stadium of FC Ultramarina and AJAT'SN, clubs from other parts of the municipality plays at the stadium, the only one being FC Praia Branca from the north of the municipality. The stadium holds 5,000 people and its ground is artificial grass with its size being 106 x 68 metres. The stadium is operated by the São Nicolau Regional Football Association (ARFSN).

Until the mid-2000s before its own stadium was constructed, the club played at Estádio João de Deus Lopes da Silva which was located 56 km on road (about 15 km direct and 30 km via the port of Preguiça). [1]

Estádio João de Deus Lopes da Silva is a multi-use stadium in São Nicolau, Cape Verde. It is currently used mostly for football matches and is the home stadium of SC Atlético and Desportivo Ribeira Brava. The stadium holds 1,000 people. It is named for João de Deus Lopes da Silva. Its size is 105x68 m and its grass is artificial. The stadium remains to be one of the symbols of the island.
