Aditi Swami is an Indian archer from Maharashtra. [1] She became India's first ever individual world champion at the senior level [2] when she won the Gold in the Compound Women's final at the 2023 World Archery Championships. [3]

Early life

Aditi Swami's father Gopichand, a maths teacher, moved to Satara from a village nearby to support her daughter's training. [4] When she was 12, he took her to the city's Shahu Stadium to introduce her into sports. She saw children playing football and training in athletics but she chose Archery which was being practiced by a small group at one corner. Later, she trained under coach Pravin Sawant in a sugar cane field. [4]

Career

Aditi Swami became the youngest World Champion in archery at the age of 17 winning the Compound women's final in 2023 in the World Cup era (post-2006) [5] She was also part of the winning team of India's first ever World Archery Championships in the Women's team Compound event, along with Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Parneet Kaur. [6] [7]

She won two gold medals at the 2023 World Archery Youth Championships. In 2023, she was also part of the gold medal-winning Indian team at the Asian Games 2022.

Awards

She received Arjuna Award from the President of India on 9 January 2024. [8]

She was awarded the Arjuna award, India's second highest sporting honor in 2017 becoming the youngest from South India to win the award.

Abhishek Verma is an Indian archer. At the 2014 Asian Games at Incheon, South Korea, he won the gold medal in the men's compound archery team event along with Rajat Chauhan and Sandeep Kumar, and the silver medal in the men's individual compound event. On 15 August 2015, he won a gold medal in the compound men's individual section at the Archery World Cup Stage 3 in Wroclaw, Poland. On 25 October 2015, he won the silver medal in the compound men's individual section at the Archery World Cup Final in Mexico city.

Diksha Dagar is an Indian professional golfer who is also deaf. She became the leading amateur ladies golfer in India from November 2015. Diksha Dagar represented India at the 2017 Summer Deaflympics where golf was included in the Summer Deaflympics for the very first time and competed in the women's individual golf event securing a silver medal. Diksha also qualified to represent India at the 2018 Asian Games. She is also considered one of the emerging amateur golfers in India. On 5 August 2023, he won the gold medal in the men's individual compound event at 2023 World Archery Championships in Berlin, becoming the first Indian male archer to do so. He also medalled at the 2022 Asia Cup and the 2023 Archery World Cup.

Darshna Rathore is an Indian sport shooter. She competes in the skeet discipline. She is part of the Indian shooting team at the Asian Games, Hangzhou, China. She was part of the Indian women's skeet team, along with Parinaaz Dhaliwal, and Ganemat Sekhon that finished fourth in the Asian Games shooting competitions.

Sarita Adhana is an Indian paralympic archer. She qualified to represent India at the 2024 Summer Paralympics in Paris in the women's Individual compound event of Archery competitions. She lost in the quarterfinals at Paris Paralympics.

Parth Salunkhe is an Indian recurve archer. He's a silver medalist at the Asian Championships as well as a 4-time gold, 5-time silver, 2-time bronze medalist at the Asian Cup. He's also a 3-time gold medalist and 1-time bronze medalist at the World Youth Championships.
