Juan Edberto"Ady"Thijsen (born 8 November 1958) is an Aruban politician. He has served as Minister Plenipotentiary of Aruba since 2022 and Permanent Representative of Aruba to the European Union since December 2021. He had been Deputy Minister Plenipotentiary from 2021. Thijsen was member of the Parliament of Aruba for the People's Electoral Movement between 2005 and 2021,and served as its President between 2017 and 2021.
Thijsen was born on Aruba on 8 November 1958. [1] He attended the Middelbaar algemeen voortgezet onderwijs ,hoger algemeen voortgezet onderwijs and ultimately voorbereidend wetenschappelijk onderwijs. [2] Thijsen started working at age 18 and held various jobs including gardener,dishwasher and croupier. He studied law at Tilburg University in the Netherlands and obtained his degree in 1997. Thijsen worked as a lawyer for several law firms in Aruba and later opened his own law firm. Thijsen is specialized in labour law and constitutional law. He worked as lawyer for the Aruban Workers' Federation. [1]
In the 2005 Aruban general election he was elected to the Parliament of Aruba for the People's Electoral Movement (MEP). He later became parliamentary leader for the MEP. [1] During 2010 Thijsen,together with C.A.S.D. (Evelyna) Wever,proposed an amendement in the Dutch House of Representatives to introduce a mandatory referendum after the Landsverordening was changed. The amendment was rejected,with only 6 supporting out of possible 150 representatives. [3] Thijsen has argued for a dispute resolution system for the Kingdom of the Netherlands. [2] In June 2013 he was in a brawl with fellow member of parliament Melvin Tromp and filed charges against him. [4] In 2016 he served as Aruba's special delegate for kingdom acts regarding Dutch nationality law and visa requirements. [5]
Thijsen was elected President of the Parliament of Aruba on 27 November 2017,he succeeded Guillfred Besaril. [1] [6] In this position he chaired the Interparlementair Koninkrijksoverleg (Interparliamentary Kingdom consultation) in January 2018. [7] In June 2019 he was critical of the Dutch government for refusing to provide funds to deal with influx of refugees in Aruba originating from the crisis in Venezuela. [8] Thijsen announced his decision to enter the 2021 Aruban general election in April 2021,making it the fifth elections in which he stood candidate. [9] He served as President of Parliament until July 2021 and was succeeded by Edgar Vrolijk. [10] [11] In September 2021 he announced he would take up his seat in Parliament after having postponed the decision to the last possible day. [12] Thijsen remained member of the Parliament until 1 December 2021. [2]
On 1 December 2021 he was named Permanent Representative of Aruba to the European Union and Deputy Minister Plenipotentiary of Aruba. [1] He succeeded Eddy Paris as Permanent Representative. [13] On 5 July 2022 he was named Minister Plenipotentiary of Aruba,succeeding Guillfred Besaril. [1] He was the first individual to undergo screening for such a position under the stricter screening law. [14] Together with the interim director of the Arubahuis he was charged with restructuring the institution by Aruban Prime Minister Evelyn Wever-Croes. [15] On 13 October 2022 he was formally sworn in by the Governor of Aruba,Alfonso Boekhoudt. He remained in function as Permanent Representative of Aruba to the European Union. [16]

The prime minister of the Netherlands is the head of the executive branch of the Government of the Netherlands. Although the monarch is the de jure head of government,the prime minister de facto occupies this role as the officeholder chairs the Council of Ministers and coordinates its policy with the rest of the cabinet. In his role as head of government,the prime minister also represents the Netherlands in the European Council. The current acting prime minister,Mark Rutte,has been in the position since 14 October 2010,with his fourth cabinet being inaugurated on 10 January 2022. He has since resigned his position on 7 July 2023 and until the 2023 Dutch general election,will serve in a demissionary capacity.
Gilberto François "Betico" Croes was an Aruban political activist who was a proponent for Aruba's separation from the Netherlands Antilles. This eventually occurred in 1986,but following a car accident on 31 December 1985,Croes lapsed into a coma and never became conscious to see his accomplishment. He is best remembered as "Libertador" (liberator) and as the father of the Aruban people.
The People's Electoral Movement is a social democratic political party in Aruba. Following the 2001 general election for the Parliament of Aruba the party won 52.4% of popular vote and 12 out of 21 seats. In the 2005 general election,the party won 43% of the popular vote and 11 out of 21 seats thus won the election and remained in power. In the 2009 general election,MEP lost 2 seats and won 36% of the vote,subsequently losing the election.
Same-sex marriages are not performed in Aruba,Curaçao,or Sint Maarten,which are constituent countries of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The islands were obliged after several court rulings to register any marriage registered in the Kingdom,but this primarily considers residency rights,and they do not have to give same-sex marriages the same legal effect as opposite-sex marriages. Marriage in the European territory of the Netherlands,as well as in the Caribbean municipalities of Bonaire,Sint Eustatius and Saba,is open to any two people irrespective of sex.
Democratic Network is a progressive,green political party in Aruba. Since the 2017 Aruban general election it has one seat in the Estates of Aruba and is part of the government coalition under Prime Minister Evelyn Wever-Croes.

Savaneta is a town and region in southeastern Aruba. Until 1797,it was the island's capital city. It is home to the island's oldest surviving home,a 150-year-old cas di torto,or mud hut. The Savaneta region has an estimated area of 27.76 square kilometers and 11,518 inhabitants according to the 2010 census.
Francisco Walfrido "Frido" Croes was an Aruban politician and schoolteacher who held the office of Minister Plenipotentiary of Aruba from 2005 to 2009. Prior to that,he served as a member of the Estates of Aruba from 1989 to 1994,and as its President from 2001 to 2004. He also served as Minister of Education from 2004 to 2005.

Antonito Gordiano "Mito" Croes was an Aruban politician of the Aruban People's Party. He served as Minister Plenipotentiary of Aruba from 1994 to 2001. He previously served as member of the Estates and government minister of the Netherlands Antilles and Aruba.
Juan Alfonso Boekhoudt is an Aruban politician serving as the governor of Aruba since 1 January 2017. He previously served as minister plenipotentiary from 14 November 2013 to 17 November 2016.

The first Wever-Croes cabinet was the cabinet of Aruba from 17 November 2017 to 20 September 2021. It was formed by a coalition government of the political parties People's Electoral Movement (MEP),Proud and Respected People (POR) and Democratic Network (RED),and was led by Prime Minister Evelyn Wever-Croes. It was the country's first coalition government in sixteen years and the first cabinet to be headed by a woman.
The second Wever-Croes cabinet is the current cabinet of Aruba. It was installed on 20 September 2021 by Deputy Governor Yvonne Laclé-Dirksz. The cabinet is formed by a coalition government of the center-left political parties People's Electoral Movement (MEP) and RAIZ,and is led by Prime Minister Evelyn Wever-Croes.
