Agastya Nanda (born 23 November 2000) is an Indian actor who works in Hindi films. Born to businessman Nikhil Nanda and columnist-author Shweta Bachchan Nanda, he has played Archie Andrews in The Archies (2023), which marked his screen debut. [1] [2]

Early life and background

Nanda was born on 23 November 2000. [3] His father is businessman Nikhil Nanda, son of Rajan Nanda (son of Har Prasad Nanda) and Ritu Nanda (daughter of actor Raj Kapoor), [4] and his mother is columnist and author Shweta Bachchan Nanda, daughter of actors Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan. [5] [6] He has an elder sister, entrepreneur Navya Naveli Nanda. His great-grandparents are poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan and social activist Teji Bachchan. Nanda completed his education from Sevenoaks School, London. Where he served as house captain of the prestigious School House. [7] [3]

From his mother's side he belongs to the Bachchan family and is the nephew of actor Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai. While, from his father's side he belongs to the Kapoor family. [8] Actor Ranbir Kapoor is his uncle, and actresses Karisma and Kareena Kapoor are his aunts. [9]

Career

Nanda made his film debut with The Archies , portraying Archie Andrews, a guitarist and singer. The film was released on Netflix in December 2023. [10] [11] Shilajit Mitra of The Hindu noted, "Agastya, a decent lead, delivers his lines in a hushed, far-off way. It’s as if Archie is always non-committal about what he says or feels." [12] Udita Jhunjhunwala of Scroll.in stated, "Agastya Nanda is likeable though a touch diffident in his timbre. Unlike some of his peers, he appears to have made an effort to play a singer." [13]

Nanda will next be seen in Maddock Films' Ikkis, where he plays an army officer Arun Khetarpal. [14]

The Archies is a 2023 Indian Hindi language teen musical comedy film, directed by Zoya Akhtar, who co-produced it with Reema Kagti under Tiger Baby Films, and Sharad Devarajan under Graphic India. The film is a live-action adaptation of "The Archies," a fictional rock band who appeared in the 1960's animated cartoon, The Archie Show. The film stars Agastya Nanda, Khushi Kapoor, Suhana Khan, Vedang Raina, Mihir Ahuja, Aditi "Dot" Saigal and Yuvraj Menda.
