Ageod's American Civil War II is a historical operational turn-based strategy computer game (WEGO system) that places players at the head of the U.S. or CSA during the American Civil War (1861–1865).

A turn-based strategy (TBS) game is a strategy game where players take turns when playing. This is distinguished from real-time strategy (RTS), in which all players play simultaneously.

United States federal republic in North America

The United States of America (USA), commonly known as the United States or America, is a country composed of 50 states, a federal district, five major self-governing territories, and various possessions. At 3.8 million square miles, the United States is the world's third or fourth largest country by total area and is slightly smaller than the entire continent of Europe's 3.9 million square miles. With a population of over 327 million people, the U.S. is the third most populous country. The capital is Washington, D.C., and the largest city by population is New York City. Forty-eight states and the capital's federal district are contiguous in North America between Canada and Mexico. The State of Alaska is in the northwest corner of North America, bordered by Canada to the east and across the Bering Strait from Russia to the west. The State of Hawaii is an archipelago in the mid-Pacific Ocean. The U.S. territories are scattered about the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, stretching across nine official time zones. The extremely diverse geography, climate, and wildlife of the United States make it one of the world's 17 megadiverse countries.

Confederate States of America (de facto) federal republic in North America from 1861 to 1865

The Confederate States of America, commonly referred to as the Confederacy and the South, was an unrecognized country in North America that existed from 1861 to 1865. The Confederacy was originally formed by seven secessionist slave-holding states—South Carolina, Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, and Texas—in the Lower South region of the United States, whose economy was heavily dependent upon agriculture, particularly cotton, and a plantation system that relied upon the labor of African-American slaves.

Contents

Most of the individual years of campaign between 1861 and 1865 are playable via a separate scenario (to be refined during beta testing). Advanced scenarios will allow recreation of some yearly or theater campaigns, and there is a Grand Campaign covering the whole war. The game is a sequel to Ageod's American Civil War , which was released in 2007. The game partnered with the Civil War Trust, and a portion of proceeds from the sale of the game was donated to the trust. [1]

The Civil War Trust is now the American Battlefield Trust, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization whose primary focus is in the preservation of American battlefields. The name was changed on May 8, 2018 to reflect the organization's more-comprehensive mission, which was expanded in 2014 to include battlefields of the American Revolutionary War and the War of 1812. The American Battlefield Trust is the umbrella organization for the Civil War Trust as well as the Revolutionary War Trust, the new name for the Trust's "Campaign 1776" land preservation project.

Gameplay

This is a turn-based game, with each term representing one-half of a month, roughly 15 days. The game takes place on a map of most of North America divided into regions. Areas in Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean are not accessible. The player takes on the role of the Union Army or the Confederate Army. The game uses a simultaneous turn or WEGO system where the player sees the opponent's starting point, but does not know what the opponent will do. The amount of information each player sees about their opponent is also affected by a fog of war. Battles are fought on behalf of the players, with the player's choice of command structure and unit mix being critical in determining outcomes. [1]

Union Army Land force that fought for the Union during the American Civil War

During the American Civil War, the Union Army referred to the United States Army, the land force that fought to preserve the Union of the collective states. Also known as the Federal Army, it proved essential to the preservation of the United States of America as a working, viable republic.

The fog of war is the uncertainty in situational awareness experienced by participants in military operations. The term seeks to capture the uncertainty regarding one's own capability, adversary capability, and adversary intent during an engagement, operation, or campaign. Military forces try to reduce the fog of war through military intelligence and friendly force tracking systems. The term is also used to define uncertainty mechanics in wargames.

The game was based on the research used to develop Ageod's American Civil War as well as help from the community.
