Joseph Alan McIsaac (born 18 March 1954) [1] is a Canadian politician, who represented the electoral district of Vernon River-Stratford in the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island as a member of the Liberal Party from 2007 to 2019. [2]

McIsaac was elected to the Legislature of Prince Edward Island in the 2007 provincial election. [3] He was re-elected in the 2011 election, [4] and was appointed to the Executive Council of Prince Edward Island as Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development, and Minister of Justice and Public safety and Attorney General. [5] [6] He ran for re-election in 2015 and was tied with Progressive Conservative challenger Mary Ellen McInnis, winning only after a coin toss went in his favour. [7] Following the election, McIsaac was moved to Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries. [8] [9] In June 2015, McIsaac was given an additional role as Government House Leader. [10] McIsaac was dropped from cabinet on January 10, 2018, after announcing that he would not run in the next election. [11]

He has served as chair of the Standing Committee on Agriculture, Environment, Energy and Forestry, and was a member of the Treasury Board. [2] He has been a member of the Standing Committee on Fisheries, Transportation and Rural Development, the Standing Committee on Public Accounts, and the Standing Committee on Education and Innovation. [2]

McIsaac is a dairy farmer and small business operator. He has held many leadership roles in the dairy industry at the provincial, regional, and national levels over the past 32 years, including chairing the Provincial Milk Marketing Board and as the Atlantic Canada Director on the Board of Holstein Canada. He also served on the Executive of the P.E.I. Federation of Agriculture. [2]

He did not run for reelection in the 2019 Prince Edward Island general election.

2015 Prince Edward Island general election

The 2015 Prince Edward Island general election was held May 4, 2015, to elect members of the 65th General Assembly of Prince Edward Island. Under amendments passed by the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island in 2008, Prince Edward Island elections are usually held on the first Monday of October in the fourth calendar year, unless it is dissolved earlier by the Lieutenant Governor of Prince Edward Island due to a motion of no confidence. The current government had hinted that an election would be held "before Mother's Day" 2015, and such a dissolution would avoid any conflicts with the next federal election, expected to be held in October 2015.

Wade MacLauchlan

H. Wade MacLauchlan CM OPEI, is a Canadian legal academic, university administrator, politician and community leader. He served as the 5th president of the University of Prince Edward Island from 1999 to 2011, becoming President Emeritus in 2012. He served as the 32nd premier of Prince Edward Island from 2015 to 2019. His government was defeated in the April 23, 2019 general election. MacLauchlan announced his intention to step down as Liberal leader on April 26, 2019 and completed his term as Premier on May 9, 2019.

2019 Prince Edward Island general election

The 2019 Prince Edward Island general election was held to elect the members of the 66th General Assembly of Prince Edward Island. The vote in 26 of the 27 districts was held on 23 April 2019, while the vote for the member from Charlottetown-Hillsborough Park was deferred to 15 July due to the death of the Green Party's candidate. However, Charlottetown-Hillsborough Park still voted in a referendum on electoral reform. Natalie Jameson won the deferred election in the riding.

David Terence McKenna was a Canadian optometrist, businessman and politician. He represented the electoral district of Glen Stewart-Bellevue Cove in the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island from 2003 to 2007. He was a Progressive Conservative.
