Haiti sent a delegation to compete in the 2008 Summer Olympics held in Beijing, People's Republic of China, from August 8 to August 24, 2008. Its participation in Beijing marked its seventh consecutive appearance at the summer Olympics and its fourteenth appearance overall, with its first being at the 1900 Summer Olympics in Paris. The Haitian Olympic team included seven athletes participating in track and field, boxing, and judo. More women participated for Haiti in 2008 than at any single Olympic games prior. Although Pierre and Dorival advanced to quarterfinals in their events, there were no Haitian medalists in Beijing. Brutus carried his country's flag at the ceremonies.
Oreidis Despaigne Terry is a male judoka from Cuba, winner of the Pan American Games men's half heavyweight division at the 2007 Games, he also won the bronze medal at the 2003 Pan American Games and at the 2007 and 2010 World Championships.
João Gabriel Schlittler is a Brazilian judoka, who played for the heavyweight category. In 2007, he won a silver medal for his designated category at the Pan American Games, and bronze at the World Championships, coincidentally in his home city. Schlitter stands 1.97 metres tall and weighs 110 kilograms (243 lb). He is also currently a member of Clube de Regatas do Flamengo, a famous sport club in Rio de Janeiro.

He was defeated in his first match by Bosnia and Herzegovina's Amel Mekić, who successfully scored an ippon and a tani otoshi, at three minutes and thirty-four seconds.
Carlos Erick Zegarra Presser is a Peruvian judoka, who played for the heavyweight category. He won a bronze medal for his division at the 2007 Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Zegarra stands 2.08 metres tall and weighs 165 kilograms (364 lb).
Kim Sung-Bum is a South Korean judoka, who competed in the men's heavyweight category. He is a two-time Olympian, and four-time medalist at the Asian Judo Championships. He defeated Iran's Mahmoud Miran for the gold medal in the open weight division at the 2006 Asian Games in Doha, Qatar. Felipe Novoa Cianelli is a Chilean judoka, who played for the half-lightweight category. He won a bronze medal for his division at the 2005 Pan American Judo Championships in Caguas, Puerto Rico, and added three more titles to his collection from the South American Championships. Novoa is also the son of Eduardo Novoa, who competed in the men's middleweight class at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, California.
Matthew Celotti is an Australian judoka, who played for the half-heavyweight category. Started out his sporting career at the age of eight, Celotti had earned four titles in the same weight division at the Australian Judo Championships.
