The Alexandria International Championships [1] or International Championships of Alexandria [2] was a men's and women's international clay court tennis tournament founded in 1914. It was played at the Alexandria Sporting Club (f. 1890), Alexandria, Egypt. The tournament ran until 1975. [3]

Seven editions of this event were valid as the International Championships of Egypt at Alexandria.

History

The Alexandria International Championships was a combined men's and women's clay court tennis tournament founded in 1914 and played at the Alexandria Sporting Club, [4] Alexandria, Egypt. The championships were staged until 1975. For the years 1937 '39 '46 '50 '52 '53 '55 the editions were valid as "International Championships of Egypt" when played in Alexandria. That tournament was mainly held Gezireh Sporting Club, Cairo. [5]

She had been a finalist in 1938, losing to Simonne Mathieu, and reached again the final in 1949, losing to Margaret Osborne duPont.

The Irish Open and originally known as the Irish Championships or Irish Lawn Tennis Championships, and for sponsorship reasons also known as Carroll's Irish Open Championships was a men's and women's tennis tournament held at the Fitzwilliam Lawn Tennis Club in Dublin, Ireland. Before the creation of the International Lawn Tennis Federation and the establishment of its world championship events in 1913, it was considered by players and historians one of the four most important tennis tournaments to win. the others being Wimbledon, the U.S. National championships and the Northern Championships. The men's event was part of the pre-open era tour from inception until 1967. It was then part of the open era non-aligned independent tour (1968–69). From 1970 to 1974, it was an event on the Grand Prix tennis circuit. The women's event was on the same tours as the men except for when it became part of the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) Tour from 1971 to 1973. The Monte-Carlo Masters is an annual tennis tournament for male professional players held in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, France, which borders on Monaco. The Egyptian Open originally known as the Egyptian Championships also known as the Egyptian Open Championships or International Championships of Egypt is a defunct Grand Prix and Challenger affiliated tennis tournament played from 1975 to 1991. It was held in Cairo in Egypt and played on outdoor clay courts from 1925 to 2002.

The Cacharel Caracas Open was a men's tennis tournament founded as the Altimira International, also known as the Altamira International Invitation and Caracas International Championships. The tournament was played annually at the Altamira Tennis Club, Miranda, Caracas, Venezuela usually in mid-March initially as part of the ILTF Caribbean Circuit.

The North of England Championships and later known as the Rothmans Open North of England Championships, was a men's and women's grass court tennis tournament founded in 1884 as the North Yorkshire Tournament. It was mainly held at Scarborough, North Yorkshire, Great Britain from. The tournament was discontinued in 1974 when it was staged at Hoylake.

The Madison Square Garden Open Tennis Championship also known as the Madison Square Garden Challenge Trophy and New York Indoor was a men's and women's open international indoor carpet court tennis tournament founded in 1968. It was organised by the USNLTA and played at Madison Square Garden, New York City, United States until 1970. This international tournament was part of the ILTF World Circuit until 1970 when it was replaced Clean Air Classic.

The Clean Air Classic and also known as the New York Indoor was a men's and women's open international indoor carpet court tennis tournament founded in 1971. It was organised by the USTA with the finals played at Seventh Regiment Armory, New York City, United States until 1972. This international tournament was part of the ILTF Independent Tour, until 1972 when it was discontinued.
