Alexei Roibu (born 17 November 1954) is a Moldovan lawyer and security official with the rank of brigadier general,who served as interior minister from January 2011 to July 2012.
Roibu was born in Sadaclia,Cimișlia District,on 17 November 1954. [1] He holds a bachelor's degree,which he received from the State Agrarian University of Moldova in 1976. [1] From 1984 to 1985 he attended committee of state security in Minsk. He graduated from the International University of Moldova in 1998. [1]
Roibu started his career in the Cimislia district where he served from 1976 to 1984. [1] Then he worked in intelligence and security sector from 1984 to 2002. On 29 March 2002,he became first director of the centre for combating economic crimes and corruption and his tenure lasted for two years. [2] [3] From 2004 to 2009 he worked as a lawyer. [1] In December 2009,he was named general manager of the border guard service and served there until January 2011. [4] [5] He was brigadier general when he assumed the post. [5] On 14 January 2011,Roibu was appointed interior minister to the cabinet led by prime minister Vlad Filat. [6] [7] Roibu was a member of the Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova in the cabinet. [8] His term ended on 24 July 2012 when he was removed from office. [9] He was succeeded by Dorin Recean in the post. [10]

He also worked in development institutions and was previously a lecturer at several universities.

She is the founder and former leader of the Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) and former Prime Minister of Moldova from 8 June 2019 until 14 November 2019,when the government collapsed after a vote of no-confidence. He was also Moldova's Foreign Minister in the period of 11 June - 14 November 2019 in the Sandu Cabinet. Until his appointment,he was the director of the Wider Europe programme of the European Council on Foreign Relations and visiting professor at Sciences Po-Paris.
On 18 September 2022,protests in Moldova began in the capital city of Chișinău,demanding the resignation of the country's pro-Western government,amid an energy crisis causing rising natural gas prices and inflation,caused in part by the war in Ukraine.
The Recean Cabinet is the Cabinet of Moldova,led by former Interior Minister Dorin Recean since 16 February 2023. Following an airport attack,Recean reshuffled three cabinet positions.
On 30 June 2023,a man shot and killed two people and injured another at the Chișinău International Airport in Moldova after he was denied entry into the country. The perpetrator was then shot and apprehended by security forces and died of his injuries three days later.
