Ali S. Hadi is an Egyptian American emeritus professor at Cornell University, USA. He was a former vice provost and director of graduate studies and research at American University, Cairo. He is the chairman and the founder of the Actuarial Science Program at the American University in Cairo. Ali Hadi was born in Saft El-Nour, Egypt. His father passed away when he was two months old and he spent his formative years with his illiterate and dedicated mother who passionately wanted him to be educated. [2] In 1972, he obtained his first degree in Accounting from Ain Shams University (Cairo, Egypt). [6] [2] In 1975, he left for the U.S. at his own expenses and obtained his MSc degree in Statistics at New York University in 1980. In 1982 and 1984, he obtained M.phil and PhD from the same university. [4] [6]
Ali Hadi worked as a customs officer at Cairo International Airport after his graduation in 1972 till his departure to USA in 1975. In USA, Hadi supported his study and his family by taking up a job in a restaurant where he started as a dishwasher and eventually became the head chef in a journey of eight years. He specialised in French-Continental cuisine. His first academic job came in 1980 when he became a research assistant in New York University after his MSc programme. In 1983, he became an instructor in the same institution. He moved to Cornell University in 1984 to become an assistant Professor. He became an associate professor in 1990, a professor in 1996 and an Emeritus Professor in 2002. [2] [6]
In 1972, he won Dr. Abou Bakr Hussien Award for the top ranking undergraduate student in Statistics, Ain Shams University During his MPhil programme, he won the Institute of Management Sciences, Metropolitan New York Chapter's Outstanding Achievements Award in 1983. In 1984, he completed his PhD with distinction and was awarded the Herman E. Krooss Award. In 1991, he was elected as an honorary member of the Golden Key National Honors Society. In 1997, he won the Schering-Plough Award for dedicated Teaching, School of Industrial and labor Relations in Cornell University. In the same year, he was elected as a Fellow of the American Statistical Association. A year later, he was Elected as a Member of the International Statistical Institute and he was named one of the Stephen H. Weiss Presidential Fellow of Cornell University. In 2007, he received the Excellence in Research and Creative Endeavor Award by the American University, Cairo and went ahead to receive the President's Distinguished Service Award by the same institution three years later. In 2011, he was elected as the President of the Islamic Countries Society of Statistical Sciences (ISOSS) and in 2018 he was elected as a Member of the Egyptian National Committee for Mathematics, Academy of Scientific Research & Technology. Ain Shams University is a public university located in Cairo, Egypt. Founded in 1950, the university provides education at the undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate levels.
Farouk El-Baz is an Egyptian American space scientist and geologist, who worked with NASA in the scientific exploration of the Moon and the planning of the Apollo program. He was a leading geologist on the program, responsible for studying the geology of the Moon, the selection of landing sites for the Apollo missions, and the training of astronauts in lunar observations and photography. He played a key role in the Apollo 11 Moon landing mission, and later Apollo missions. He also came up with the idea of touchable Moon rocks at a museum, inspired by his childhood pilgrimage to Mecca where he touched the Black Stone.

Ain Shams University, Faculty of Medicine or School of Medicine, is a public Egyptian graduate school and one of the faculties of Ain Shams University. Now, it is one of the largest educational medical institutions in Africa and the Middle East. It was founded in 1947, making it the third oldest medical school in Egypt. It has promoted numerous programs of medical care to serve society, in addition to environmental development and continuous scientific research for local and international health. It became part of Ain Shams University in the 1950s, when it was established after adding several faculty members. Each year the faculty holds an annual conference dedicated to the recent advances in medical science.
Hasan M. El-Shamy is a professor of folklore (folkloristics) in the Department of Folklore and Ethnomusicology, the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Cultures, and the African Studies Program at Indiana University. He received a B.A. with honors in Arabic and Islamic studies from Ain-Shams University in Cairo, Egypt in 1959. He then completed an intensive graduate program in psychology and education from Ain-Shams (Heliopolis) University in 1959–1960. Later he received an M.A. in folklore from Indiana University in 1964, as well as a Ph.D. in folklore with interdisciplinary training in folklore, psychology, and anthropology from Indiana University in 1967.
Younan Labib Rizk was a prominent Egyptian historian and literary figure. He was a professor of history at Ain Shams University in Cairo; and was also appointed a member of the History Committee of the Supreme Council for Culture. He was formerly Director of Historical Studies at the Institute of Research and Arab Studies. Rizk was a prolific writer with a weekly column appearing in Al-Ahram newspaper where he founded and headed the History Studies Centre. He was the author of several esteemed publications which rendered him an authority on Modern History, which was the subject of his MA and PhD degrees in 1963 and 1967 respectively. Rizk received numerous awards and medals, including State Incentive Award in Social Sciences in 1995. On the national level, he played a significant role in the dispute over Taba with Israel in 1986–88. The issue was subject to international arbitration and was ruled in Egypt's favor.
Ahmed Samy Khalifa was an Egyptian pediatric hematologist and oncologist. He established the specialty of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at Ain Shams University. He treated thousands of children with thalassemia, leukemia and other hematologic and ontological diseases all over Egypt.
Jehane Noureldin Ragai is an Emeritus Professor of Chemistry at the American University in Cairo (AUC). She is the author of the two editions of The Scientist and the Forger. The first edition, published in 2015 by Imperial College Press, was translated into Korean. The second edition, published in 2018 by World Scientific Publishing, was translated into Chinese. Her recent Textbook Technical Art History, published in 2021 by World Scientific Publishing, which she co-authored with Tamer Shoeib has won the "Most Promising New Textbook Award " by the Textbook and Academic Authors Association in the US.
Ahmed Moharram, Sr. was Minister of Housing and Public Utilities in Egypt and the co-founder and chairman of ACE Moharram Bakhoum, an international engineering and project management group. Because of his significant contributions to the housing, infrastructure, and civil engineering, Moharram received numerous honorary medals and awards such as the Medal of the Order of the Republic of the 1st Degree in 1964 from the former president Gamal Abdel Nasser, Medal of the Order of Merit of the 1st Degree in 1985 from the former president Hosni Mubarak, Mubarak's Award in 2002, and several other honors in Egypt. There is also a prize named after him at Cairo University for contributions in engineering.
Yervant Terzian was an American astronomer. He was the Tisch Distinguished Professor Emeritus in Cornell University's Department of Astronomy, which he chaired between 1979 and 1999.
Ezz El-Din Ismail Abdel-Ghani was an Egyptian critic and University professor who was the recipient of several awards. In 2000, he shared the King Faisal International Prize in Arabic Language and Literature with Dr. Abdullah Al-Tayeb. He was also awarded the Medal of Science and Arts (first-class) and the Mubarak Prize for Literature.
Mohamed Salahuddin Abdel-Sameeh Fadl is an Egyptian professor, writer, and translator from Kafr el Sheikh. He has held many educational and non-educational positions in Egypt and abroad. He worked as a medic at the Cairo University, the Al-Azhar University, the Ain Shams University in Egypt, the National Autonomous University of Mexico, and the College of Mexico in Spain, as well as the University of Sana'a in Yemen and Bahrain. Other non-educational positions held by Dr. Fadl include editing the Journal of the Egyptian Institute of Islamic Studies in Madrid, heading the Department of Arabic at Ain Shams University, other contributions to the Campus Council, and other academic contributions.
Eid Hassan Doha is an Egyptian Emeritus Professor of Numerical Analysis and Approximation Theory at the Cairo University. He is an elected fellow of African Academy of Sciences, the head of the department of Mathematics at Cairo University and the Head of Promotion Committee of Research Assessment for Associate Professorships – Supreme Council of Egyptians Universities.
Attia Ashour was an Egyptian emeritus professor of Applied Mathematics at Cairo University. He was a former president of the Arab Union of Mathematical and Physics. A former Director of Advanced Schools on the Physics of the Earth. He was an elected member of World Academy of Sciences, a founding member of African Academy of Sciences and he was also a Knight in the National Merit Order in France.
Khaled S. Mekheimer is an Egyptian professor of Applied Mathematics at the Department of Mathematics Faculty of Science (Men), Al-Azhar University, Egypt. He is the Vice Dean of Research and Post-graduate Studies of the Faculty. He is an elected member of African Academy of sciences and Egyptian Mathematical Society.
Shoukry Hassan Sayed is an Egyptian professor of Applied Mathematics at the Department of Mathematics, College of Science University of Bahrain. He was the former Head of Mathematics Department, King Abdulaziz University, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. He is a fellow of the Institute of Physics (London) and an elected member of African Academy of Sciences.
Alfaisal A. Hasan is an Egyptian professor of Engineering Mathematics at the Department of Basic & Applied Science in the College of Engineering and Technology Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport – Ganoub Alwadi Branch (AASTMT). He is the Dean of Admission and Registration, the Vice Dean of Educational Affairs and the Head of Basic and Applied sciences Department of the same institution.
Ahmed Amin HamzaFAAS FRMS SPIE is an Egyptian emeritus professor of physics at the Faculty of Science, University of Mansoura. He was a former President and Vice President of the institution and an ex-President of the British University in Egypt. He is a member of African Academy of Sciences and a fellow of the institute of physics.
Nageh Allam is an Egyptian Professor of materials science and engineering at the American University in Cairo (AUC). He is the Director of the Nanotechnology graduate program of the institution. He is a receiver of the World Academy of Sciences Young Scientist Award, Obada Prize Award and an elected member of the African Academy of Sciences.
Sherif El- Khamisy is an Egyptian Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics. He is the Director of Research and Innovation and co-founder of the Healthy Life Span Institute, University of Sheffield, United Kingdom. He is also one of the 2022 winners of Obada Prize
