Aliyu Shugaba (born 4 April 1963) is a Nigerian academic, professor of biochemistry who is the former vice-chancellor of University of Maiduguri in Borno State, Nigeria. [1] prior to his appointment he was the Deputy Vice Chancellor academic services of the university. [2]
Aliyu Shugaba was born in the year 1963 in Buratai village of Biu local government area, Borno State. [3] Shugaba started his early childhood education at Buratai Primary School in 1970, after his completion in 1976 he then proceeded to Government Science Secondary School Bama and graduated in 1981. Shugaba was admitted into University of Maiduguri in 1982 and went on to obtained his B.Sc Biochemistry in 1986. Shugaba also attended Ahmadu Bello University. Zaria where he obtained his M.Sc and PhD in Biochemistry between 1995 and 2005 respectively. [4]
Shugaba is an academician and has lectured students at different levels for over twenty years.

The University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) is a Federal higher institution located in Maiduguri, the capital city of Borno State in Northeast Nigeria. The university was created by the federal government of Nigeria in 1975, with the intention of its becoming one of the country's principal higher-education institutions. It enrolls about 25,000 students in its combined programs, which include a college of medicine and faculties of agriculture, arts, environmental science, Allied health science, Basic medical science, dentistry, education, engineering, law, management science, pharmacy, science, social science, and veterinary medicine. With the encouragement of the federal government, the university has recently been increasing its research efforts, particularly in the fields of agriculture, medicine and conflict resolution, and expanding the university press. The university is the major higher institution of learning in the north-eastern part of the country.

Isa Marte Hussaini is a Nigerian professor of pharmacology and fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Science, inducted into the academy in 2013. He specialized in cancer research and is currently exploring the use of local herbs for cancer therapy. His report to the Nigerian Academy of Science on the use of local herbs for Cancer therapy suggested that herbal plants are more efficacious than the current drugs used in cancer treatments. In May 2015, he presented a paper entitled: “The mining of Nigerian medicinal plants for cancer therapy” in Abuja at the induction of Fellows of the Nigeria Academy of Science where he stated the predictions of the International Agency for Research on Cancer that annual global new cases of cancers are expected to rise from 11 million to 16 million by 2020, with 70 per cent of them coming from developing countries.

He assumed office as Vice Chancellor of the University on June 3, 2014 and prior to his appointment, he was the Deputy Vice Chancellor of the university. Prof Ibrahim Njodi was appointed Secretary to the Gombe State government by Governor Inuwa Yahya immediately after his tenure elapsed as the Vice Chancellor of University of Maiduguri.
