All Day Venus is the second studio album by Australian musician Adalita. It was released by Liberation Music on 20 September 2013. [1] [2]
Adalita first announced that she was writing for a new album via her blog [3] in March 2012. The album was written and demoed throughout 2012 at various locations, including Melbourne, Sydney and Smiths Lake on the New South Wales central coast. [4] This was, reportedly, a period of self-examination and personal growth for Adalita, with many of the songs centring on the 'disintegration of romantic relationships'. [1] She also expressed that she wanted to work with a band for this album, marking the first time she's done so since Magic Dirt went on indefinite hiatus in 2010. [5]
Adalita announced on her Facebook page, in April 2013, that work had started on the album at Birdland Studios in Melbourne, with long-time Magic Dirt producer Lindsay Gravina. [6] Matt Bailey (Paradise Motel) played bass on the album, while three different drummers – Jim White from Dirty Three, Hugo Cran of The Devastations and Lee Parker of Spite House – all contributed to the album. Also playing on the album is violinist, Willow Stahlut, whom Adalita encountered busking in Melbourne’s Bourke Street Mall and invited into the studio. In June, Adalita appeared on Australian television program RocKwiz and performed a track from the new album, entitled "I Want Your Love", [8] a track that she has been playing live since 2010. [9] In July 2013, she previewed the track "All Day Venus" and announced a small run of Australian east coast shows to preview the new material. [10] During the first show, at The Tote venue in Melbourne, Victoria, she announced that the album is also titled All Day Venus.[ citation needed ]
She told tonedeaf.com.au that the album “[is] louder, and there’s much more distortion, the songs are bigger; there’s a lot more going on even though I’ve still kept that minimal aesthetic.” She also stated that she chose Lindsay Gravina to produce the album because “he knows my evolution as a songwriter and how to bring out my best. Working solo is way more intense and I feel like I can really trust him with my music; something I don’t readily do. It’s certainly hard to get past my guard. But Lindsay can do it.” [11]
On 8 August, music website mess+noise announced that All Day Venus would be released on 20 September 2013. The album artwork and track listing were also revealed. The website also featured a link to the album's first single, 'Warm Like You', which premiered on Triple J the same day. [2] [12]

All Day Venus received generally positive reviews from critics upon its release. Justine McNamara, reviewing for The AU Review, called the album "a refreshingly honest and raw album, just what Australian music needs at the moment". [14] 4ZZZ called it, "Another album of thundering, alternative rock. Continues to remind me of a more shoegaze version of Concrete Blonde's Johnette Napolitano." [18]

Magic Dirt is an Australian rock band, which formed in 1991 in Geelong, Victoria, with Daniel Herring on guitar, Adam Robertson on drums, Adalita Srsen on vocals and guitar, and Dean Turner on bass guitar. Initially forming an alternative underground band called Deer Bubbles which split and formed into the much heavier, rock based group called The Jim Jims, they were renamed as Magic Dirt. Their top 40 releases on the ARIA Albums Chart are Friends in Danger (1996), What Are Rock Stars Doing Today (2000), Tough Love (2003) and Snow White (2005). They have received nine ARIA Music Award nominations including four at the ARIA Music Awards of 1995 for Life Was Better – their second extended play. Turner died in August 2009 of dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans. From 2010 to November 2018, the band were on hiatus.
Christopher John Cheney is an Australian rock musician, record producer, and studio owner. He is the founding mainstay guitarist, songwriter, and lead vocalist of the rockabilly band The Living End, which was formed in 1994 with schoolmate Scott Owen. Cheney wrote the group's top 20 hits on the ARIA Singles Chart: "Second Solution" / "Prisoner of Society" (1997), "All Torn Down" (1999), "Pictures in the Mirror" (2000), "Roll On" (2001), "One Said to the Other" (2003), "What's on Your Radio" (2005), "Wake Up" (2006), and "White Noise" (2008). In 2004, Cheney joined the supergroup The Wrights which put out a cover version of Stevie Wright's epic 11-minute track, "Evie" as a single. At the 2009 APRA Music Awards, Cheney won Song of the Year for writing The Living End's track, "White Noise".
Faker are an Australian alternative rock band, formed in 1996 by mainstay Nathan Hudson on lead vocals, piano and guitar. They have released three studio albums, Addicted Romantic, Be the Twilight and Get Loved. Their highest charting single, "This Heart Attack" (2007), peaked at No. 9 on the ARIA Singles Chart. The group disbanded in December 2013, but they announced their reformation in October 2020.
Kevin Edward Mitchell, also known by the stage name of Bob Evans, is an Australian singer-songwriter; Mitchell uses the name for his primary solo project. He is also the founding lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist of the alternative rock band Jebediah, which was formed in 1994 and features his older brother Brett Mitchell, who joined on drums before the group's first performance. Jebediah released five studio albums between 1997 and 2011, the first three of which entered the top ten on the ARIA Albums Chart.
RocKwiz is an Australian television live music trivia quiz show, focused on rock music and featuring different guest artist musicians who perform live in each episode. The show was co-created by Brian Nankervis, Peter Bain-Hogg, and Ken Connor. It was originally broadcast on SBS and premiered in 2005 also on Foxtel's Max but now airs on Foxtel. The 14th season, which was the final season aired by SBS, premiered on 7 May 2016. Season 14 consisted of 7 episodes, recorded between February and April 2016, with the theme "RocKwiz Salutes The Legends". The final episode aired on 25 June 2016. The series won the 2007 AACTA Award for Best Light Entertainment Television Series and was nominated in the same category three times, it was also nominated for a Helpmann Award. On February 3, 2019 it was announced that SBS would no longer be commissioning any more TV episodes although the live touring shows would continue. In 2023, a new series was commissioned by Foxtel, with some changes to the format including a focus on more recent music and filming in a studio.

Adalita Srsen, known simply as Adalita, is an Australian rock musician who is a founding member of the rock band Magic Dirt and a solo artist. She released her first solo album, Adalita in 2011 and her second solo album, All Day Venus, in September 2013.
Edward Guglielmino is an Australian musician, disc jockey, public speaker, academic, and blogger based in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia. He currently is a member of musical groups the Thin Kids and Lost of Love, but is best known for his own solo music career and has commercially released three albums.
Holiday Sidewinder Carmen-Sparks is an Australian-born indie pop singer-songwriter, musician and record producer. She was the founding lead singer of Bridezilla (2005–13). After that group disbanded Sidewinder relocated to England to start her solo career. Her debut album, Forever or Whatever, appeared in October 2019.
Megan Alexanda Washington is an Australian musician, songwriter and voice actor who has worked mononymously as Washington. Originally performing jazz music, her style shifted to indie pop and alternative rock. She has released four studio albums, I Believe You Liar, There There, Batflowers, and Hot Fuss (2022). Both I Believe You Liar and There There reached the top 5 on the ARIA Albums Chart and Batflowers peaked in the top 25. Tania May-Bowers, better known by her stage name Via Tania, is an Australian singer formerly based in Chicago, Illinois.
Seth Gabriel Marton, who performs by his stage name Seth Sentry, is an Australian hip hop recording artist. He has released one extended play and three studio albums. At the ARIA Music Awards of 2015 he won the ARIA Award for Best Urban Album for his second album, Strange New Past. Sentry's touring schedule has involved headline shows around Australia, as well as appearances at numerous festivals such as Breath of Life, Fat As Butter, Come Together, Sprung Festival, Big Day Out (Melbourne), Homebake, Hyperfest, Groovin the Moo and Triple J's One Night Stand.
Stonefield are an Australian rock band comprising the four Findlay sisters: Amy, Hannah, Sarah, and Holly. They were formed in 2006 as Iotah in Darraweit Guim, a small town in rural Victoria. They changed their name in 2010 and have released four studio albums, Stonefield, As Above, So Below — which peaked at No. 19 on the ARIA Albums Chart — Far from Earth, and Bent.

Brooke Addamo, better known by her stage name Owl Eyes, is an Australian recording artist from Melbourne signed to the Illusive / Wunderkind Label with distribution through Universal Music Group. She released her debut studio album Nightswim in April 2013, which peaked at number 28 on the ARIA Charts.
Courtney Melba Barnett is an Australian singer, songwriter, and musician. Known for her deadpan singing style and witty, rambling lyrics, she attracted attention with the release of her debut EP I've Got a Friend Called Emily Ferris in 2012. International interest came with the release of her EP The Double EP: A Sea of Split Peas in 2013.
Teeth & Tongue were an Australian indie rock band formed in 2007 by Jessica Claire Cornelius, a New Zealand-born singer-songwriter and musician. The project has included other members, such as James Harvey on drums, Marc Regueiro-McKelvie on guitar and Damian Sullivan on bass guitar and synthesiser. Teeth & Tongue released four albums, Monobasic, Tambourine, Grids and Give Up on Your Health, before disbanding early in 2017. The stage name had also been used for Cornelius' solo performances, but since 2017 she has performed and released material under her own name and relocated to Los Angeles late that year.
Alison Barter is an Australian pop rock singer-songwriter. Trained in classical music, Barter began writing and independently releasing pop rock in her mid-twenties. She released an EP, Trip, in 2012 and was the winner of the 2013 Triple J Unearthed competition. An opinion column Barter wrote in 2016 for Junkee, on the need for representation of women in music history, attracted local and international attention. As of 2021, Barter has released one live and two studio albums. She married musician and collaborator Oscar Dawson in 2016.
Animal Hands are an Australian rock band from Melbourne. The band's line-up includes founder and songwriter for the band Danielle Whalebone, alongside several musicians over the years. The album 'Tonic Clonic' featured Kleber Croccia whose previous band "Volver" was in Rollingstone magazine in 2009 whilst playing the festival circuit in Brazil. and also featured melbourne bass player Jamie O'Shea and drummer Noosh! who all contributed to the songwriting.
