Amanda Swope is an American politician who has served as the Oklahoma House of Representatives member from the 71st district since November 16,2022. She was the Tulsa County Democratic Party Chairwoman between 2019 and 2022,the youngest person and first Native American to hold the position. She is a citizen of the Muscogee Nation.
Amanda Swope was born and raised in Tulsa where she graduated from Nathan Hale High School in 2006. [1] She earned her bachelor's degree in psychology from Northeastern State University and her master's degree in public administration from the University of Oklahoma. [2]
Swope worked in the nonprofit sector before accepting a job for the Muscogee Nation in 2018. [1] [2] She became the tribal juvenile justice program director for the Muscogee Nation in 2021. [1]
Swope started volunteering with the Tulsa County Democratic Party in 2011. She served as the Chairwoman of the Tulsa County Democratic Party from 2019 to 2022. She was the first woman and first Native American to hold the seat. [1]
Swope filed to run for Oklahoma House of Representatives 71st district to succeed Representative Denise Brewer in 2022. She faced no other Democratic candidates in the primary and Republican Mike Masters in the general election. [2] She was endorsed by the Tulsa World and received campaign contributions from the Cherokee Nation. [3] [4] She defeated Masters with over 60% of the vote. [5] She was sworn in on November 16,2022. After moving to Oklahoma in 1999,Hern expanded his McDonald's franchises,eventually owning 18 franchises in the Tulsa metropolitan area. In 2018,he ran his first campaign for office and was elected to the United States House of Representatives.
Terry O'Donnell is an American politician and a member of the Republican Party who has served as the Oklahoma House Representative for the 23rd district since January 8,2013. He first won elected office in the 2012 Oklahoma state elections. In January 2021,O'Donnell was promoted to be the speaker pro tempore of the Oklahoma House of Representatives,the second highest ranking Republican Party of Oklahoma member in the state house. On December 17,2021,O'Donnell was indicted in relation to a tag agency corruption scandal. He resigned as speaker pro tempore on February 2,2022 but later rejoined House Republican leadership in 2023 as majority whip,"a position that involves coordinating the teams of legislators that whip vote counts ahead of key bills."
