Amfibian is an American musical project led by Phish lyricist Tom Marshall.
Future members of the band appeared on Marshall's 2000 solo album Amfibian Tales , after which Marshall (on vocals and keyboards) officially formed Amfibian as a proper band. The group initially included guitarists Scott Metzger and Andrew Southern, bassist Matt Kohut (formerly toured with Ween), and drummers Pete Cottone and JP Wasicko. The group played a series of concerts in 2001, including a benefit for murdered Phish fan Kristin Laurite at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park, New Jersey. The show, hosted by Kevin Cassels of The Pharmer's Almanac , was to be released as a live album, but Marshall temporarily retired Amfibian at the end of the year.
Three years later in 2004, Marshall reformed a completely new Amfibian with guitarist/vocalist/keyboardist Chris Metaxas, drummer Joe Larsen, bassist Bob Kay as well as guitarist Anthony Krizan, and released the band's first studio album, From the Ether , in the spring. The band went their separate ways after eight months of touring the U.S. east coast.
In the fall of 2006, Marshall and Anthony Krizan returned with three new members for Skip The Goodbyes , released on Relix Records in June 2007. The album features Phish leader Trey Anastasio, as well as contributions from former Amfibian members Chris Metaxas, Benjamin Clapp, Mark Varga, and Thorp Rivingston.
Tragically, the son of keyboardist John Korba died in a car accident in November 2007. This and other circumstances have caused Amfibian to take hiatus of indefinite length. Tom Marshall spent much of Spring (2008) in collaborative writing sessions with longtime friend and partner Trey Anastasio at Anastasio's studio in upstate New York, partially in preparation for Phish's Summer 2009 album release.

Billy Breathes is the sixth studio album by American rock band Phish, released by Elektra Records on October 15, 1996. The album was credited with connecting the band, known for its jam band concerts and devoted cult following, with a more mainstream audience. The first single, "Free", was the band's most successful song on two Billboard rock charts, peaking at #11 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks Chart and at #24 on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks Chart. The album itself became the band's highest-charting album on the Billboard 200, where it peaked at number seven.
Michael Eliot Gordon is an American bass guitarist and vocalist most recognized as a founding member of the band Phish. In addition to bass, Gordon is an accomplished banjo player, and is proficient at piano and guitar. He is also a filmmaker and author. He has released five solo studio albums and three studio albums with acoustic guitar pioneer Leo Kottke.
Undermind is the eleventh studio album by American rock band Phish, released on June 15, 2004 by Elektra Records. The album was the group's last release before they disbanded in August 2004. It is also their final studio release for Elektra Records ; When the band reunited in 2009, their subsequent albums would be released through their own JEMP Records label which had launched in December 2005 for live releases.
The Story of the Ghost is the seventh studio album by American rock band Phish, released by Elektra Records on October 27, 1998. The album features an emphasis on the jazz-funk influenced "cow-funk" style, which the group had been experimenting with in concert throughout 1997 and 1998. Tom Marshall is an American lyricist, keyboardist and singer-songwriter best known for his association with Trey Anastasio and the rock band Phish. He has been the primary external lyricist for Phish during their career, with songwriting credits for more than 95 originals. In addition to his songwriting work, Marshall also fronts the rock band Amfibian and hosts the Phish podcast Under the Scales. Marshall is the co-founder of Osiris, a podcast network in partnership with Jambase.
The Jammy Award are an awards show for bands typically called jam bands and other artists associated with live, improvisational music, created by Dean Budnick and Peter Shapiro. Since 1998, Trey Anastasio, best known from Phish, has toured and recorded with several backing musicians, including several side-projects organized and led by the guitarist and composer. Fans commonly referred to them as Trey Anastasio Band, or TAB for short. In spring 2005, after the break up of Phish the previous fall, Trey formed 70 Volt Parade. This moniker only lasted a short time, as he began using the name Trey Anastasio Band for this group the following year. In 2008, he toured with members of the older band as "Classic TAB", and then two years later, he began again using the name Trey Anastasio Band for this group. Through its history, Trey Anastasio's band has gone through many different configurations, ranging from a trio to a dectet.
Tony Markellis was a bassist and record producer, born in Helena, Montana, to a Turkish immigrant, Constantine Markellis, and the daughter of Greek immigrants, Victoria Carkulis, residing in Saratoga Springs, New York from 1975 until his death. Markellis was best known as the bass guitarist for the Trey Anastasio Band and various other groups led by Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio.
Amfibian Tales is an album by Phish lyricist Tom Marshall, who also handles lead vocals and keyboards on the album. Officially billed under "Tom Marshall and Co.," the disc includes a number of special guests, including Matt Kohut, Scott Metzger, old friend Pete Cottone, and New Jersey duo The Sarahs, who sing lead vocals on "Nothing," a track written by Marshall and Trey Anastasio that eventually found its way onto Phish's eleventh studio album, Undermind.
