The ICC Intercontinental Cup was a first-class cricket tournament organised by the International Cricket Council (ICC) as part of its cricket development programme. It was designed to allow Associate Members of the ICC the chance to play first-class cricket matches over four days against teams of similar skill in a competition environment and prepare them for eventual promotion to Test cricket status. First run in 2004, two of the most successful teams in the history of the tournament, Ireland and Afghanistan were promoted to Full Member and Test status, in 2017.

They are governed by the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) which became an Affiliate Member of the International Cricket Council (ICC) in 1989 and an Associate Member the following year. Since 2005, the ICC's headquarters have been located in Dubai.

David Trent Johnston, usually known as Trent Johnston, is an Irish-Australian former cricketer. Johnston was born in Wollongong, New South Wales, and played his early cricket for New South Wales in Australian domestic competitions. A right-handed batsman and right-arm fast-medium bowler, he later moved to Ireland, and made his debut for the Ireland cricket team in 2004. Johnston was subsequently named captain of Ireland, and was a regular fixture in the national team until his retirement in 2013. In Irish club cricket, he plays for the Railway Union Cricket Club. In October 2007, he published a book "Raiders of the Caribbean" with The O'Brien Press which tells the story of Ireland's remarkable performances in the 2007 Cricket World Cup.
William Kyle McCallan, MBE, usually known as Kyle McCallan, is a former Irish cricketer. A right-handed batsman and off spin bowler, he has played more times for the Ireland cricket team than any other player, more than 40 caps ahead of the next player in the table, the retired Peter Gillespie. Only three players have captained Ireland more times than McCallan, and only Jason Molins has captained them to more wins. He has also played second XI cricket for Derbyshire and Surrey.
Paras Khadka is a Nepalese cricketer. He was captain of the Nepalese cricket team from 2008 to 2019. All-rounder Khadka is a right-handed batsman, a right-arm medium-fast bowler, and an occasional off break bowler. He made his debut for Nepal against Malaysia in April 2004. In July 2018, he announced that he would retire from international cricket after the conclusion of Netherlands tour. In August 2018, he retired after playing the first ODI of the tour. In December 2018, he retired from all forms of cricket.
The Nairobi Club Ground is a multi-use sports venue in Upper Hill, Nairobi, Kenya. It is the oldest cricket ground in Kenya, and was the first to get a turf wicket, which was laid by Don Pringle, who played for East Africa in the 1975 Cricket World Cup.

Hamid Hassan is an Afghan cricketer. Hassan is a right-arm fast bowler who represented Afghanistan in international cricket. He has also appeared in first-class cricket for Pakistan Customs in Pakistan, Marylebone Cricket Club in England and Band-e-Amir Region in Afghanistan.
Mohammad Shahzad Mohammadi is an Afghan cricketer, a right-handed opening batsman who plays also as a wicketkeeper. He represents Afghanistan in international cricket.
The Namibia national cricket team is the team that represents the Republic of Namibia and is governed by Cricket Namibia, an Associate Member of the International Cricket Council (ICC) since 1992, and became part of the High Performance Program in 2007. They took part in the 2003 Cricket World Cup in South Africa, though they lost all their games. They have played in each edition of the ICC Intercontinental Cup.

Founded in 1927, it is one of the oldest and most prestigious cricket clubs in Kenya. It takes part in the Nairobi-based NPCA Leagues and in the national cricket tournaments such as the East African tournaments, run by Cricket Kenya.
Lucas Oluoch Ndandason is a Kenyan cricketer. Domestically, he previously represented Nairobi Gymkhana Club, but from the 2011 season, he is playing for Coast Pekee in the East African tournaments.
Christoffel "Christi" Viljoen is a cricketer who plays for the Namibia national team. He bats right-handed and bowls right-arm medium-fast. He also represents Otago in domestic cricket in New Zealand.
