Amkette is a multinational technology company and manufacturer of computer hardware and consumer electronics, headquartered in New Delhi, India. The company launched a smart TV product called EvoTV in 2012.

History

Amkette was started by Rajiv Bapna in 1984. It became one of the largest manufacturers and exporters of floppy diskettes from India, selling to Russia and other countries in Europe. [2] The plant manufactured 8", 5.25" and 3.5" diskettes. At its peak it had a production capacity of 30 million floppies daily. [1] The plant was shut down in Jan 2013 and completely converted into a R&D center. [3]

In November 2014, the company launched a headphone with a sharing jack, Trubeats Tango, that allows listeners to connect additional listening devices to the headphone. [4]

In December 2016, the company launched the successor of its flagship product Evo TV 2 4k capable of playing 4k content. [5] In the subsequent year, the company launched the next generation of Evo TV, the Evo TV 3 4K with an upgraded 2GB of RAM. [6]

After a decade of the launch of Amkette TV Box which converted normal TVs into smart TVs, In 2021, the company introduced its flagship product, EvoFox Game box in the Indian market. [7]

Peripherals

The company manufactures computer peripherals such as keyboards and mice, USB hubs, card readers, and HDMI cables. [8] In early 2010, the company entered the wireless segment, comprising keyboards and mice that run on either bluetooth or wireless spectrum technology. [25]

Audio

The company makes headphones and headsets that run on Bluetooth and wireless spectrum technology such as Air Budz and Urban [26] series.

Amkette also makes smartphone accessories.

Multimedia devices

The company manufactures multimedia devices that work on Android platforms and can be connected to a TV. Amkette began development and marketing of media players in late 2009, by introducing the Flash TV 720p [27] media player. In early 2011 the company launched FlashTV HD 1080p, [28] which was a Full HD media player. In mid-2012, the company launched a new media player called Amkette EvoTV, [29] which was again a Full HD mediapPlayer powered by Android.

Rajiv Kumar Bapna is the founder of Amkette, first-ever domestic manufacturer of floppy diskettes in India. He completed his bachelor's degree in electronics engineering from the prestigious Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani (BITS-Pilani). After his brief stint at the Department of Electronics, he moved to the Middle East where he headed the technology division of Citibank for West Asian markets as the Vice-President of Information Technology.

EvoTV is a range of digital media players developed by Amkette that brings internet and web2.0 features to the television. EvoTV was envisioned to be a substitute to the growing range of Smart TVs in the market. Instead of replacing complete television sets to get Internet-based features users could just connect an EvoTV and get the same features at a much lower cost. EvoTV is based on the Android operating system, can connect to the internet wirelessly, and can stream local, network and internet media and audio files. Once connected users can access Android Playstore Apps using EvoTV on their television. The first EvoTV was launched in the middle of 2012 and received many positive reviews and awards. In 2013 Amkette EvoTV won the NDTV Gadget Award for the Best Consumer Electronic. In 2014 two news versions of EvoTV were introduced bringing the total variants to five.

The GameStick is a discontinued home video game console developed by PlayJam. It is a microconsole the size of a USB flash drive that plugs directly into the back of a TV through an HDMI port and ships with its own Bluetooth controller. Users can download content from a curated storefront via Wi-Fi, with content stored locally for offline access. The device is powered by the PlayJam Games Platform and runs its own version of the Android operating system. It is portable and aimed at casual to mid-core gamers. Like the Ouya, it was funded through Kickstarter.

The Samsung Galaxy A02 is a budget Android smartphone manufactured by Samsung Electronics as a part of its A series. The phone was announced and released in January 2021. It features a 6.5-inch 720p touchscreen display, and a dual camera setup, and comes with One UI 2.5 over Android 10. It had very compelling selling points such as a big display, massive battery, and cheap price. Still, its lacklustre camera, below-average performance, and embarrassing laggy, featureless UI, meant it has remained as one of the worst Samsung A series phones ever released. Even though most people did not like this phone, the company managed to sell over 18.3 million units after its launch.

The iQOO 3 is an Android-based smartphone designed, developed and marketed by Vivo owned iQOO as a part of its iQOO gaming smartphone series. This phone was announced on February 25, 2019. The iQOO 3 was introduced as a premium segment smartphone with a special focus on gaming.
