Amoghavarsha JS is an Indian filmmaker and wildlife photographer. In 2021, Amoghavarsha won the 67th National Film Awards [1] for his film "Wild Karnataka" [2] as the Best Exploration/Adventure Film, It is narrated by Sir David Attenborough and also won the Best Narration/Voice Over award. He is the art director on Grammy® Award Album "Divine Tides" by Ricky Kej at the 64th Annual Grammy Awards and 65th Annual Grammy Awards. His video work on climate change was showcased in the 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Paris by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President François Hollande. [3] He addressed the United Nations headquarters in 2020 when his movie Wild Karnataka was screened there. [4] His film Kali has won the Impactdocs Award of Merit [5] and the Australia India Youth Dialogue alumni grant for the year 2015 [6]

Amoghavarsha worked with the Grammy Award Winner Ricky Kej for his music albums. The song "Mother Earth" from the album "Divine Tides" by Ricky Kej and Stewart Copeland was originally written as the score for Amoghavarsha's film "Wild Karnataka" a tribute to the magnificent bio-diversity of the Southern Indian state of Karnataka [7]

He has previously worked with companies such as National Geographic and BBC . Amoghavarsha is the "EOS Ambassador" for Canon. [8] He has also appeared on the Star Plus  TED Talks India Nayi Soch hosted by Shah Rukh Khan

Early life

After completing his bachelor's degree in Computer Science, he joined Amazon as a software engineer. He later worked for the local search startup Asklaila as its first employee. He co-founded an IOT-wellness start-up in San Francisco and holds 3 patents for the same. [9] [10] [11]

In 2018 Amogh founded a media production company named Mudskipper Labs [12] which is a premium factual studio dedicated to producing films that create global impact [13]

Photography

Amoghavarsha works with government forest departments, non-profit organisations and media institutions on conservation and education projects. He works closely with CEE and has helped set up interpretation centres. He is also one of the key contributors to the "Science Express – Biodiversity Special", a Ministry of Environment Forest and Climate Change initiative which toured India for over a year and has been witnessed by more than 2.5 million people. [14] He has contributed to Microsoft research on the cutting-edge digital narratives media project at Hampi. [15]

His work has been exhibited in various national and international events. His work has also been exhibited by UGallery and Williams Sonoma.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Biligiriranga Hills</span> Wildlife sanctuary in South India

The Biligirirangana Hills or Biligirirangan Hills is a hill range situated in Chamarajanagar District in south-western Karnataka, at its border with Tamil Nadu in South India. The area is called Biligiri Ranganatha Swamy Temple Wildlife Sanctuary or simply BRT Wildlife Sanctuary. It is a protected reserve under the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972. Being close to the Eastern Ghats as well as the Western Ghats, the sanctuary has floral and faunal associations with both regions. The site was declared a tiger reserve in January 2011 by the Government of Karnataka, a few months after approval from India's National Tiger Conservation Authority.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Male Mahadeshwara Hills</span> Pilgrimage centre in Karnataka, India

Male Mahadeshwara Betta is a pilgrim town located in the Hanur taluk of Chamarajanagar district of southern Karnataka. It is situated at about 150 km from Mysuru and about 210 km from Bengaluru. The ancient and sacred temple of Sri Male Mahadeshwara is a pilgrim centre where Mahadeshwara lived, practiced medicine as Sidda, taught ahimsa to people in and around the seven hills. It draws lakhs of pilgrims from the states of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. The area of the present temple surroundings is 155.57 acres (0.6296 km2). In addition, the temple has lands at Talabetta, Haleyuru and Indiganatha villages. Amidst dense forest, the temple attracts not only the pilgrims but also nature lovers. The height of the hill is about 3000 feet above sea level.

Netrani is a small island of India located in the Arabian Sea. It is the only heart island which is present in India.It is off the coast of Karnataka situated approximately 10 nautical miles (19 km) from the temple town of Murudeshwara in Bhatkal Taluka. The island can be seen from the mainland over 15 km away. Views above give this island the appearance of being heart-shaped. Its animal inhabitants include wild goats and a lot of pigeons. It has scuba diving and a lot of different water sports facilities available to have fun and is easily accessible from Bhatkal, Mangalore, Goa, Mumbai or Bangalore. It is a good place to go for day out picnics. There are dive shops at Murdeshwar and Goa which regularly organize trips to the island. It is known locally as Nitra Gudo. The famous Hindu temple Jai Bajrangbali Temple is located here.

Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary is a protected area and tiger reserve as part of the Project Tiger, situated in Chikkamagaluru district, 23 km (14 mi) south of Bhadravathi city, 38 km (24 mi) 20 km from Tarikere town, northwest of Chikkamagaluru and 283 km from Bengaluru city in Karnataka state, India. Bhadra sanctuary has a wide range of flora and fauna and is a popular place for day outings. The 1,875 m (6,152 ft) above MSL Hebbe Giri is the highest peak in the sanctuary.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Wildlife of Karnataka</span>

The state of Karnataka in South India has a rich diversity of flora and fauna. It has a recorded forest area of 38,720 km2 which constitutes 55 of the geographical area of the state. These forests support 25% of the elephant population and 20% of the tiger population of India. Many regions of Karnataka are still unexplored and new species of flora and fauna are still found. The mountains of the Western Ghats in the western region of Karnataka are a biodiversity hotspot. Two sub-clusters of the Western Ghats, Talacauvery and Kudremukh, are on a tentative list of sites that could be designated as World Heritage Sites by UNESCO. The Bandipur and Nagarahole national parks which fall outside these subclusters were included in the Nilgiri biosphere reserve in 1986, a UNESCO designation. In the Biligiriranga Hills the Eastern Ghats meet the Western Ghats. The state bird and state animal of Karnataka are Indian roller and the Indian elephant. The state tree and state flower are sandalwood and lotus. Karnataka is home to 524 tigers.

<i>Gandhada Gudi</i> 1973 film directed by Vijay

Gandhada Gudi is a 1973 Indian Kannada-language action drama film directed by Vijay and produced by M. P. Shankar. Rajkumar in his 150th film portrays an honest forest officer Kumar while Vishnuvardhan plays the antagonist, Anand, though his character is redeemed at the end of the film. Kalpana, M. P. Shankar, Narasimharaju and Balakrishna performed other important roles.

Ram Gyan "Ricky" Kej is an Indian music composer and environmentalist and a three-time Grammy Award winner. He has performed at venues in over 35 countries including at the United Nations headquarters in New York and Geneva. In October 2023, Kej was announced as a UN "Goodwill Ambassador" (UNCCD) at the United Nations General Assembly by then President, Csaba Körösi.

<i>Wild Karnataka</i> 2019 Indian film

Wild Karnataka is a 2019 Indian natural history documentary on the Indian state of Karnataka's rich biodiversity, most of which is still unknown to the general public. Produced by Amoghavarsha JS and Kalyan Varma in collaboration with Icon Films and Mudskipper, the film was edit produced by Nicholas Gates, narrated by Sir David Attenborough with music composed by Grammy Award winner, Ricky Kej and edited by Adam Kirby.
