The Indian Police Service is a civil service under the All India Services. It replaced the Indian Imperial Police in 1948,a year after India became independent from the British Empire.
India maintains 10 paramilitary forces.
The Aviation Research Centre (ARC) is India's imagery intelligence organisation,a part of the Directorate General of Security,run by the Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW). It started functioning in November 1962,in the wake of the Sino-Indian War,as an extension of the Intelligence Bureau,but placed under the Ministry of External Affairs.
Gazetted officers include all the Indian Police Service officers which are Group A officers of the cadre and all State Police Services officers of and above the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police. All are arranged in a hierarchical order.

The Chief Secretary is the top-most executive official and senior-most civil servant of the state government. The Chief Secretary is the ex-officio head of the state Civil Services Board,the State Secretariat,the state cadre Indian Administrative Service and all civil services under the rules of business of the state government. The Chief Secretary acts as the principal advisor to the chief minister on all matters of state administration.

In the Indian Armed Forces women are allowed to join mainly in combat service support branches and in non combatant roles. The Indian Air Force had 13.09% female officers in 2018 and 8.50% female officers in 2014;the Indian Navy had 6% female officers in 2018 and 3% female officers in 2014 and the Indian Army had 3.80% female officers in 2018 and 3% female officers in 2014. In 2020,three officers had the rank of lieutenant-general or equivalent,all in the Medical Services. In May 2021,83 women were inducted as sepoys for the first time in the Indian Army's Corps of Military Police. On 30 March 2023,273 women were inducted in the Indian Navy as sailos for the first time in the history of the Indian Navy,total 2,585 agniveers passed out after successful completion of training from INS Chilka. The Indian Air Force got airwomen for the first time in its history on 7 March 2024 as 153 female agniveers passed out from the Airmen Training School,Belagavi with 2,127 male agniveers.
Archana Ramasundaram,also spelt as Archana Ramasundram,is a retired Indian police officer who was a member of Tamil Nadu Police. She served in the Indian Police Service (IPS) for 37 years until her retirement in 2018 and was the first woman police officer of India to lead a central paramilitary force. Her husband Ramasundaram served as a senior state IAS officer in the state of Tamil Nadu until 2011.
Edavelath Nalamveetil Rammohan was an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the 1965 batch,who served in many of India’s police and paramilitary organisations. He retired as Director General (DG) of the Border Security Force (BSF),a leading paramilitary force of India,tasked with guarding the country’s borders.

Rajwinder Singh Bhatti is a 1990- batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer from Bihar cadre and serving as the Director General of the Central Industrial Security Force of India since 1 September 2024.
