Anand Nyamagouda (born 1983) is an Indian politician and agriculturist who serves as the chairman of Jamakhandi Sugars Ltd,the first farmers' public limited company in India,incorporated in 1993 to establish a sugar and co-generation project. [1] He is the son of the late Siddu Nyamagouda,a senior Congress leader and former Minister of State for Coal in the Government of India. [2]
Anand was elected to the 2018 Karnataka Legislative Assembly election as the Indian National Congress candidate for the Jamkhandi constituency in the 2018 election [3] [4] and served as the Leader of the Opposition from March 4 to March 21,2021. [5]
Anand Nyamagouda was born in 1983 to Siddu Nyamagouda,who was known for building India's first private dam in 1989. The dam,named Shrama Bindu Sagar,is built across the Krishna River at Chikkapadasalagi village in Jamakhandi. Anand received his MBA in Finance from Bangalore University. [6] [2]
Anand entered politics following the death of his father in a car accident. Siddu Nyamagouda was a veteran Congress leader,a two-time MLA,and served as the Minister of State for Coal in P. V. Narasimha Rao's cabinet. After his father's death,a by-election was held in the Jamkhandi constituency.
Anand contested the by-election under pressure from party workers and local residents,and he was elected as the Indian National Congress candidate with 97,017 votes. [2] He also served briefly as the Leader of the Opposition from March 4 to March 21,2021. [5]
Siddaramaiah,also referred to by his nickname Siddu,is an Indian politician who is serving as the 22nd Chief Minister of Karnataka from 20 May 2023. He also held that position previously from 2013 to 2018,being only the second person to hold that office for a full five-year term. He belongs to the Indian National Congress and is presently the leader of the Congress Legislative Party. He represented the Varuna Assembly constituency from 2023,previously from 2008 to 2018,Badami Assembly constituency from 2018 to 2023,and from Chamundeshwari Assembly constituency from 2004 to 2007,1994 to 1999 and from 1983 to 1989 in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly. He served as the Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka from 1996 to 1999 and from 2004 to 2005 while he was a member of the Janata Dal and Janata Dal (Secular). He also served as the Leader of the Opposition in Karnataka Legislative Assembly on two occasions from 2019 to 2023 and from 2009 to 2013. Siddaramaiah was a member of various Janata Parivar factions for several years.
