Andrel Anthony (born January 7, 2002) is an American football wide receiver for Oklahoma. He previously played college football for Michigan.
Anthony played high school football in East Lansing, Michigan. He set the East Lansing High School records for most receiving yards in a season (954 in 2019) and a career (1,971). [2]
Anthony received scholarship offers from Notre Dame, Penn State, Arkansas, Ole Miss, Wisconsin, Michigan State, and Kentucky. [3] He announced his commitment to the University of Michigan at the end of July 2020. [4] [5] He opted not to play his senior year at East Lansing and to instead enroll early at Michigan. [6]
Against Michigan State on October 30, 2021, he made his first reception at Michigan, a 93-yard touchdown from Cade McNamara, the second longest pass play in Michigan football history. He ended the game with six catches for 155 yards and two touchdowns. [7] [8] [9] He was subsequently named the Big Ten Co-Freshman of the Week for the week ending November 1, 2021. [10]
As a sophomore in 2022, Anthony caught seven passes for 80 yards and a touchdown. [11]
The Michigan–Michigan State football rivalry is an American college football rivalry between the University of Michigan Wolverines and the Michigan State University Spartans. The teams first played in 1898 and have met 114 times. The game has now been played uninterrupted, every year since 1945. In 1949 Michigan State was accepted into the Big Ten conference, though it was not until 1953 that the rivalry became a Big Ten conference game, due to protests from the University of Michigan administration. Though it became a conference game in 1953, it did not become a home-and-home series until 1958 due to protests by Michigan administrators. Prior to 1958 all but 6 matchups were played in Ann Arbor. The winner of each year's game receives the Paul Bunyan – Governor of Michigan Trophy, a four-foot wooden statue of a lumberjack that was first presented in 1953 to commemorate Michigan State's beginning football competition as a member of the Big Ten Conference.
Derrick Scott Alexander is a former American football wide receiver. He played college football at the University of Michigan from 1989 to 1993 where he was selected as a first-team All-Big Ten receiver in both 1992 and 1993. He was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the first round of the 1994 NFL Draft and played nine seasons in the National Football League (NFL) with the Cleveland Browns (1994–1995), Baltimore Ravens (1996–1997), Kansas City Chiefs (1998–2001), and Minnesota Vikings (2002). In 2000, he set a Kansas City Chiefs single-season record with 1,391 receiving yards. He is currently employed as the head coach at Avila University in Kansas City, Missouri.
