Rev. Fr. Andrew Campbell (born March 27, 1946) is an Irish-Ghanaian catholic missionary, founder of Lepers Aid Committee and parish priest of Christ the King Catholic Church in Accra. [1] [2] [3] Born in Dublin, Ireland, he had his early education at Sisters of Charity School and de la Salle Primary School in Ireland. In October 1970, he obtained a Bachelor of Divinity from St. Patrick's College. [1]

Priesthood and work

Andrew was ordained as a catholic priest in December 1970, he was posted to Ghana as a missionary priest under The Society of the Divine Word a year after. [4]

He has served in many catholic Parishes in Accra, including Holy Spirit Cathedral, Adabraka, St, Peter's Parish, Osu, Sacred Heart Parish Accra, where he established the Sacred Heart Vocational Institute. [5] He founded the Lepers Aid committee in 1993 to care for persons with leprosy. [6] The NGO has established and run leprosariums in Weija, Ho, Nkanchina and Kokofu. [7] [8] [9] [10] [11] He has also founded The Christ The King Soup Kitchen. [12]

In 2013, Andrews Campbell acquired Ghanaian citizenship. [1] He also acquired Nii Lantey as his local name.

Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu is a Ghanaian Islamic cleric who currently serves as the Chief Imam of Ghana, as well as a member of the National Peace Council. He was first appointed as the Deputy Regional Chief Imam in 1974 after a lengthy discussions among tribal chiefs, academics, Islamic scholars, and religious personalities. During this period he deputized his cousin, Imam Muhammed Mukhtar Abbas, who succeeded his father. The Roman Catholic parish of St. Sylvanus lies within the Accra suburb of Pokuase in Ghana. It centres on the church of St. Sylvanus, which opened in 1948. St Sylvanus was established as a parish in 2014, after being a rectorate since 2006.

General elections were held in Ghana on 7 December 2020. Incumbent President Nana Akufo-Addo of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) was re-elected in the first round after securing a majority of the votes. Former President John Dramani Mahama announced that he would contest the results. At the Supreme Court, a petition challenging the result was filed on 30 December, and unanimously dismissed on 4 March 2021 for lack of merit.

Ghana Infectious Disease Centre (GIDC) is a centre built to improve the medical diagnostic and research capacity of Ghana with regard to infectious diseases. The facility was built due to the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic in Ghana. Establishing the centre was facilitated by the Ghana COVID-19 Private Sector Fund in collaboration with the Ghana Armed Forces at the Ga East Municipal Hospital in Accra. The old Shai Osudoku District Hospital was also renovated into one of the infectious diseases centres in the Shai Osudoku District in Dodowa. This shares a boundary with the Shai Osudoku District Health Directorate. The president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo, inspected the centre on 30 October 2020

The Government of Ghana initially responded to the virus through a nationwide disinfection and fumigation exercise which began in April 2020. In order to curb the spread of the virus, the government enforced lockdowns, aggressive contact tracing, public bans and social measures such as encouraging the wearing of face masks. By April, it began the gradual reopening of the country; lifting all lockdowns while maintaining protocols such as social distancing. Throughout the pandemic, the government partnered with the private sector in order to roll out economic reliefs and recovery programs as a result of the impact of the pandemic on Ghana's economy. There was also an expansion of medical facilities and the improvement of testing logistics.

Prior to his appointment as moderator he served as the President of the Trinity Theological Seminary, Legon for 7 years. In August 2018, Joseph Obiri Yeboah Mante was elected the new Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG) to succeed Cephas Narh Omenyo, the then incumbent, who had been ill for over a year and the General Assembly had to take a decision to declare the moderator seat vacant to allow new leadership.
