The Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia is the state supreme court of the state of West Virginia, the highest of West Virginia's state courts. The court sits primarily at the West Virginia State Capitol in Charleston, although from 1873 to 1915, it was also required by state law to hold sessions in Charles Town in the state's Eastern Panhandle. The court also holds special sittings at various locations across the state.
Lloyd A. Karmeier is a former American judge who served as a justice of the Illinois Supreme Court from the 5th district. He served as chief justice of that court from 2016 to 2019. Karmeier retired at the conclusion of his second term in December 2020.

On August 17, 2018, he announced his candidacy for the Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia Division 1. He was not elected, placing third among ten candidates. Wilkes retired in January 2019, but continued to serve as a senior judge.
John A. Hutchison is an American lawyer who served as a justice of the Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia from 2018 to 2024. He served as chief justice in 2022.
William R. Wooton is an American attorney and politician who has served as a justice of the Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia since January 1, 2021. He became chief justice in 2025.

Todd Andrew Kirby is a judge of the 10th Circuit Court of West Virginia. He was sworn in on July 23, 2024, beginning his term on July 24, 2024. He previously served as a member of the West Virginia House of Delegates from the 44th district.
