Andrew Friend (born 24 April 1969) is an Australian rugby union coach and former player. He completed his most recent post as Director of Rugby for Irish province Connacht at the end of the 2022/23 URC season. He was previously head coach of the Australia Sevens team, [1] the Brumbies in Super Rugby, [2] English club Harlequins, [3] and Canon Eagles and Suntory Sungoliath in the Japanese Top League. Friend was selected in the Australia Schoolboys rugby team for 1986–87 before going on to play provincial rugby for the ACT Kookaburras. [1] His position of choice was full-back. [5]
Friend began his coaching career within an Australian Institute of Sport rugby programme in 1995. [1] [6] He held assistant coaching positions at the New South Wales Waratahs and the Brumbies. [7] [8] He was also the Brumbies skills coach under Eddie Jones. [9]
In the summer of 2005, Friend joined English Premiership team Harlequins as head coach. [10] [11] Following the conclusion of the 2007-08 season, he signed a three-year contract with the Canberra-based Brumbies side. [3]
He took over from Laurie Fisher as head coach at the Super Rugby club. [12] After completing two full seasons in charge, Friend has his contract terminated in March 2011 following a loss to the Melbourne Rebels and rumours of player discontent. [2] He was the third coach to either be fired or not have their contract renewed by the ACT Brumbies board. After helping out as a trainer for various Canberra high school teams, Friend went to Japan in 2012 and became the head coach at Canon Eagles for two seasons. [1] He was head coach of Suntory Sungoliath from 2014 to 2016. [4]
Friend was appointed as the head coach of Pro14 side Connacht on a three-year deal in May 2018. [13]

Friend guided the Australian Under-21 team to the final of the 2005 World Championships. [15] He worked within the Wallabies setup for the 2002 Tri Nations Series and 2003 Rugby World Cup. [16] He was appointed as head coach of the Australian Sevens team in 2016. [1]
Following an accident in 2010 when his wife, Kerri Rawlings, came off her bike and suffered a serious brain injury, Andy Friend undertook a 5000 km journey from Cooktown to Canberra to raise awareness and money for Acquired Brain Injury. This was to support Brain Injury Australia and Outward Bound. The journey was successful, with his wife as part of the support crew, and was completed in late November 2011. [17]
The ACT Brumbies is an Australian professional rugby union team based in Canberra, Australian Capital Territory (ACT), The team competes in Super Rugby and named for the feral horses which inhabit the capital's hinterland. The team represents the ACT, as well as the Far South Coast and Southern Inland regions of New South Wales (NSW).

Henry Rangi Paul is a rugby union coach and former rugby league and rugby union player. A dual-code international, Paul won 24 caps for New Zealand in rugby league and 6 for England in rugby union, as well as rugby sevens. The team is based in Fuchū, Tokyo, as is their local rival Toshiba Brave Lupus. The team rebranded as Tokyo Sungoliath ahead of the rebranding of the Top League to the Japan Rugby League One in 2022.
Edward Jones is an Australian rugby union coach and former player. He most recently coached the Australia national team from January until October 2023. He previously coached Australia, Japan and England. He returned to the role of Japan head coach in January 2024.

Tony Rea is an Australian professional rugby league football coach and a former head coach for Super League club, London Broncos. A former hooker, he played club football in the Brisbane Rugby League for Brothers, in the New South Wales Rugby League as captain of the North Sydney Bears, and in the Super League for the London Broncos, later becoming their coach. Rea also briefly coached Super Rugby team, the Brumbies before returning to London to coach the Broncos.
Randwick District Rugby Union Football Club, also known as the Galloping Greens, is an Australian rugby union club which competes in the Sydney premier grade rugby union competition. The club was formed in 1882 and since then has won 32 first grade premierships and six Australian club championships. It is one of the traditional powerhouses of the Shute Shield competition, winning 14 titles from 1978 to 1996. Randwick's colours are myrtle green and the club's home ground is Coogee Oval. In the 1980s the club produced many Wallabies, including the Ella brothers. Its history has seen many of Australia's best players represent the club, including the likes of George Gregan, Rocky Elsom and David Campese. In all, 93 Randwick players have pulled on a Wallaby jersey, and nine have had the honour of captaining their country.

Tyrone Smith is an Australian-Tongan professional rugby union and rugby league footballer. He is currently signed to the French Rugby Pro D2 team RC Narbonne. Smith previously played Super Rugby with the Brumbies and Super League with the London Broncos/Harlequins RL. His usual position is centre (RU) or wing (RL).
Dan Palmer is an Australian rugby union coach and retired professional player. He is currently the lineout coach for the Australia national team, and after the 2023 Rugby World Cup will join Leicester Tigers as scrum coach. He played for the New South Wales Waratahs and ACT Brumbies in Super Rugby, before a short stint with French club Grenoble. He also earned one cap for Australia in 2012. His usual position was tighthead prop.

Jarrad Butler is an Australian professional rugby union player. He primarily plays as a flanker but also plays at number 8. Butler currently plays for Irish provincial side Connacht in the Pro14. Before joining Connacht, Butler played in Super Rugby, first for the Reds and then for the Brumbies. While playing for the Brumbies, Butler also played for National Rugby Championship the Canberra Vikings, where he served as captain.

Nick Scrivener is an Australian professional rugby union coach and former player for the ACT Brumbies. As of 2018, he is head coach of Australian National Rugby Championship team the Canberra Vikings, a team he coached previously in 2014 and 2007.
