Andrew Lord (born 1970) [1] is the Commissioner of Transport for London,London's most senior transport official. He was appointed on a permanent basis in June 2023,after holding the role on an interim basis from October 2022.
Educated at Repton School,Lord studied engineering at the University of Manchester,joining British Airways as an Engineering undergraduate in 1989. [1] He then worked at the airline in a variety of roles,becoming Director of Operations in 2008. Leaving British Airways in 2015,Lord worked as a consultant,before joining John Menzies in 2016. [2] Lord has also held director roles at companies and organisations such as NATS and Defence Equipment and Support. [3] [2]
In July 2019,Andy joined Transport for London (TfL),as the managing director of London Underground and TfL Engineering. [2] [4] In February 2022,the Commissioner of Transport for London Andy Byford appointed him Chief Operating Officer of TfL. [5] [6]
Following the departure of Andy Byford from TfL in October 2022,Lord became Acting Commissioner. [7] [8] In June 2023,Lord was appointed commissioner of Transport for London on a permanent basis by the TfL board and the mayor of London,Sadiq Khan. [9] [10] This makes him London's most senior transport official. Lord receives a base salary of £395,000,an increase of £40,000 from the previous commissioners. [1] [11]

Crossrail is a completed railway project centred on London. It provides a high-frequency hybrid commuter rail and rapid transit system,known as the Elizabeth line,that crosses the capital from suburbs on the west to east and connects two major railway lines terminating in London:the Great Western Main Line and the Great Eastern Main Line. The project was approved in 2007,and construction began in 2009 on the central section and connections to existing lines that became part of the route,which has been named the Elizabeth line in honour of Queen Elizabeth II who opened the line on 17 May 2022 during her Platinum Jubilee. The central section of the line between Paddington and Abbey Wood opened on 24 May 2022,with 12 trains per hour running in each direction through the core section in Central London.
Camden Town is a London Underground station in Camden Town. It is a major junction for the Northern line,as it is where the Edgware and High Barnet branches merge from the north,and is also where they split to the south into the Bank and Charing Cross branches for the journey through Central London. The Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) is an area in London,England,where an emissions standard based charge is applied to non-compliant road vehicles. Plans were announced by London Mayor Boris Johnson in 2015 for the zone to come into operation in 2020. Sadiq Khan,the subsequent mayor,introduced the zone early in 2019. The zone initially covered Central London,the same area as the existing London congestion charge;in 2021,Khan extended the zone to cover the area within the North Circular and South Circular roads. In 2023 it was further extended to all of Greater London,covering over 1,500 square kilometres (580 sq mi) and approximately 9 million people.
