Angela Jonsson (born 28 February 1990) is an Icelandic model and actress of half-Indian origin who shot to fame after she won the Kingfisher Calendar Model Hunt in 2011. [3] [4]

Personal life

Jonsson was born on 28 February 1990 in Chennai to a father from Iceland and a mother from Mangalore. [5] Her parents are coffee exporters. [6] She has six sisters and three brothers, and spent her childhood in an estate on the mountains of Kodaikanal where she studied at an American international school. [7]

Jonsson currently lives in New York with her partner, Geoff Nelson. [8]

Career

Jonsson modelled for the Kingfisher Calendar in 2011 after winning the calendar's Calendar Girl Hunt competition that same year. She judged the Kingfisher Calendar Girl Hunt 2012. [9] [10] She has been taking Hindi diction and dance lessons to begin her career as an actress in Bollywood and other Indian film industries. [6] [11] [12]

She was voted one of Times 50 Most Desirable Women in India in 2011. [13]

The Kingfisher Calendar was an annual calendar featuring models in swimsuits published by the Indian conglomerate United Breweries Group for 19 years from 2003 to 2021. Described by Rediff as "arguably the most prestigious [modelling assignment] in India", it was credited with advancing the careers of models and actresses like Katrina Kaif, Deepika Padukone, Yana Gupta, Sonali Raut, Ujjwala Raut, Nargis Fakhri, Bruna Abdullah, Deepti Gujral, Lisa Haydon, Aishwarya Sushmita and Angela Jonsson. Photographer Atul Kasbekar has been associated with the calendar since its inception in 2003 till its final issue in 2021. Kasbekar along with Vijay Mallya are credited with the idea of creating the annual Kingfisher Calendar.
