The Anglican dioceses of Mount Kenya are the Anglican presence in east-central, north and north-east Kenya; they are part of the Anglican Church of Kenya. The remaining dioceses of the Church area in the areas of Mombasa, of Maseno, and of Nakuru.

The Diocese of Fort Hall was renamed as Mount Kenya diocese in 1964, a few years after its erection from the Diocese of Mombasa; it was then split in 1975, into East and South; Kariuki, the last Bishop of Mount Kenya, became the first Bishop of Mount Kenya South. The Central diocese was split off in 1984, the West in 1993, and then Thika diocese (from the South and Central dioceses) in 1998. [1] The present cathedral is St James's Cathedral Kiambu. [2]

The Diocese of Mount Kenya East was erected from Mount Kenya diocese in 1975 and was itself then split on 1 July 1990, when Kirinyaga diocese was formed: Gitari was elected to that See, but the old cathedral of the eastern mountain diocese was in the new Embu diocese. On 1 July 1997, the Diocese was split again to create Mbeere diocese. [8]

Thika diocese was created from portions of two dioceses — Mount Kenya South and Mount Kenya Central — on 1 July 1998. [20]
At the first diocesan synod, 2 July 1998, John Mutonga, the archdeacon, was named the Archbishop's Commissary (i.e. acting bishop) until the first bishop's consecration. [21]

Marsabit, then in the Diocese of Kirinyaga, was erected into a Mission Area directly under the Archbishop in 2008 — it was therefore part of the All Saints' Cathedral Diocese — and eventually given autonomy as its own diocese in 2011. [22]
Rob Martin was the bishop for the Mission Area from 2008, as a suffragan bishop of the Archbishop and therefore of the All Saints' Cathedral Diocese.

Similarly, Murang'a South was another Mission Area of All Saints' from 2008, but originally part of Kirinyaga diocese. It has been a diocese in its own right since 2013.
Embu is a town located approximately 125 kilometres (78 mi) northeast of Nairobi towards Mount Kenya. Embu served as the provincial capital of the former Eastern Province and currently serves as the headquarters of Embu County in Kenya. Located on the south-eastern foothills of Mount Kenya, the Municipality of Embu had a population of 204,979 in 2019 census. Embu is also the 8th Largest Municipality in Kenya. It is the commercial hub of the Central Eastern part of Kenya and provides an avenue for trade, tourism and highway transit between the national capital and the Northern Frontier.
Mûkûûrî is an administrative Location and township in Runyenjes Division, in Embu County, Kenya, with a population of about 25,000 people. It is named for a large, strong Sycamore Fig Tree that stood for over 100 years at the current site of the township. The Sycamore Fig tree symbolizes strength, rejuvenation and regeneration. Mûkûû-rî region lies on the green, rolling hills of the Mount Kenya slopes. The administrative region begins from the stone cliffs of Nthûngû waterfalls, all the way to Nthenge Njerû falls, through the famous Kirimiri Forest, stretching to the historic Gogo Salt lick, bordering Gitare. It is home to four public primary schools, including Kubu Kubu Memorial Boarding School and Muragari School, which is among the oldest schools in Embu and Kîrînyaga districts.
The Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) is a province of the Anglican Communion, and it is composed by 41 dioceses. The current Leader and Archbishop of Kenya is Jackson Ole Sapit. The Anglican Church of Kenya claims 5 million total members. According to a study published in the Journal of Anglican Studies and by Cambridge University Press, the ACK claims 5 million adherents, with no official definition of membership, with nearly 2 million officially affiliated members, and 310,000 active baptised members. The church became part of the Province of East Africa in 1960, but Kenya and Tanzania were divided into separate provinces in 1970.
The Anglican Church of Tanzania is a province of the Anglican Communion based in Dodoma. It consists of 28 dioceses headed by their respective bishops. It seceded from the Province of East Africa in 1970, which it shared with Kenya. The current primate and archbishop is Maimbo Mndolwa, enthroned on 20 May 2018.

The Embu or Aembu are a Bantu people indigenous to Embu county. The region is situated on the southern slopes of the former Eastern province. They belong to the northeastern Bantu branch and speak the Embu language known as Kiembu as a mother tongue. It belongs to the Bantu branch of the Niger-Congo family. Kimeru, Kikuyu, and Kikamba share similar language characteristics. To the west, Embu neighbours are the closely related Kikuyu in Kirinyaga, Nyeri, Kiambu, Muranga and Nyandarua counties. The Meru people border the Embu to the East.
The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Nyeri is the Metropolitan See for the ecclesiastical province of Nyeri, one of four in Kenya, Eastern Africa, yet depends on the missionary Roman Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples.

St Paul's Cathedral, Embu is a Cathedral of the Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) located in the north of the town of Embu. It serves as the Bishop's seat in the Diocese of the same name, and as such is the mother church of a congregation of some 45,000.
Sub-counties, also known as Districts, are the decentralised units through which government of Kenya provides functions and services. At national level, sub-counties take a more administrative function like security, statistical purposes, provision of government services, etc. Even though the sub-counties are divisions of counties, powers to create new national sub-counties lies with the national government. As of 2023, there are 314 sub-counties, compared to 290 constituencies. A deputy county commissioner is appointed by the state to lead each sub-county. The sub-counties are further divided into divisions, locations and sub-locations.
David Mukuba Gitari was a Kenyan Anglican archbishop. He was the third primate and archbishop of the Anglican Church of Kenya, from 1997 to 2002, and at the same time, Bishop of the Diocese of Nairobi. He was married to Grace Wanjiru, since 1966, and they had three children.
