Anne-Marie Gowora is a Zimbabwean judge who currently serves as a justice of the Supreme Court of Zimbabwe since 2012. Previously,she served on the High Court of Zimbabwe beginning in 2000.
Gowora attended the University of Rhodesia (today the University of Zimbabwe),where she studied law in a multiracial class of 38 students,including whites,blacks,Coloureds,and Indians. [1] Among her former law classmates are prominent Harare lawyer George Chikumbirike,and judges Ishmael Chatikobo,Moses Chinhengo,and Jacqueline Pratt. [1] Gowora graduated in 1979 with a Bachelor of Laws. [1]
Before becoming a judge,Gowora spent much of her career working in the office of the Attorney General. [2] At the time she was appointed to the High Court bench,she was a partner in a private law firm. [3] In 2000,President Robert Mugabe appointed her to the High Court of Zimbabwe,along with three others,including Rita Makarau,her former law firm partner. [3] However,University of Bordeaux professor Daniel Compagnon described her as an "undeniably pro-ZANU–PF judge," noting that she received a farm in October 2005 as a result of Zimbabwe's land reform program. [2]
In November 2011,Gowora was named acting justice of the Supreme Court of Zimbabwe,with effect from 1 January 2012. Later that year,President Mugabe appointed her Supreme Court justice. She was sworn in,alongside High Court appointee Happias Zhou,on 2 May 2012 at State House in a ceremony attended by Chief Justice Godfrey Chidyausiku,Justice Minister Patrick Chinamasa,Supreme Court Justice Rita Makarau,among other public officials. [4] Acting Justice Yunus Omerjee was also supposed to be sworn in that day,but he was out of the country. [4] In 2013,Gowora was appointed to the Constitutional Court of Zimbabwe,which is part of the Supreme Court.
The politics of Zimbabwe occurs in a society deeply divided along lines of race,ethnicity,gender and geography. The ZANU–PF party has historically been dominant in Zimbabwe politics. The party,which was led by Robert Mugabe from 1980 to 2017,has used the powers of the state to intimidate,imprison and otherwise hobble political opposition in Zimbabwe,as well as use state funds and state media to advance the interests of the party.

A member of ZANU–PF and a longtime ally of former President Robert Mugabe,he held a series of cabinet portfolios and was Mugabe's Vice-President until November 2017,when he was dismissed before coming to power in a coup d'état. He secured his first full term as president in the disputed 2018 general election.

Noma D. Gurich is an American attorney and jurist who is serving as an associate justice of the Oklahoma Supreme Court. Gurich was appointed the State's highest court by Governor Brad Henry in 2010 and assumed office on February 15,2011. Gurich was appointed to the Court following the death of long-time Justice Marian P. Opala. Gurich is the third woman in state history after Alma Wilson and Yvonne Kauger to be appointed to the Supreme Court.
Kalpana Hasmukhrai Rawal is a Kenyan-Asian lawyer and the former Deputy Chief Justice and Vice President of the Supreme Court of Kenya. She was sworn in on June 3,2013 as the Deputy Chief Justice of Kenya in a ceremony presided over by the President of Kenya and the Chief Justice. After a protracted case on the question of the retirement age of Judges who were appointed under the old Constitution of Kenya,the Supreme Court delivered a Ruling which effectively set the retirement age at 70 years,sending the Deputy Chief Justice and one other Supreme Court Judge who had reached 70 on retirement.
Fortune Chasi is a Zimbabwean politician,member of parliament,and formerly served as the country's Minister of Energy and Power Development. Fortune became member of parliament in Zimbabwe for Mazowe South in the 2013 Zimbabwean Parliamentary Elections. Fortune was appointed the Deputy Minister of Justice and Legal Affairs by President Robert Mugabe on 10 September 2013.
