The politics of Zimbabwe occurs in a society deeply divided along lines of race,ethnicity,gender and geography. The ZANU–PF party has historically been dominant in Zimbabwe politics. The party,which was led by Robert Mugabe from 1980 to 2017,has used the powers of the state to intimidate,imprison and otherwise hobble political opposition in Zimbabwe,as well as use state funds and state media to advance the interests of the party.
The University of Zimbabwe (UZ) is a public university in Harare,Zimbabwe. It opened in 1952 as the University College of Rhodesia and Nyasaland,and was initially affiliated with the University of London. It was later renamed the University of Rhodesia,and adopted its present name upon Zimbabwe's independence in 1980. UZ is the oldest university in Zimbabwe.
Ndabaningi Sithole was the founder of the Zimbabwe African National Union (ZANU),a militant,nationalist organisation that opposed the government of Rhodesia,in July 1963. Sithole's father was Ndau and his mother was Ndebele. He worked as a United Church of Christ in Zimbabwe (UCCZ) minister. He spent 10 years in prison after the government banned ZANU. A rift along tribal lines split ZANU in 1975,and he lost the 1980 elections to Robert Mugabe.
Abel Tendekayi Muzorewa,also commonly referred to as Bishop Muzorewa,was a Zimbabwean bishop and politician who served as the first and only Prime Minister of Zimbabwe Rhodesia from the Internal Settlement to the Lancaster House Agreement in 1979. A United Methodist Church bishop and nationalist leader,he held office for less than a year.
Retired Brigadier General George Mutandwa Chiweshe was once the Chairperson of the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission.He was born in family of four.One of his brothers passed on and he has one surviving brother and elder sister who lives in Mutare. Justice Chiweshe left ZEC to become High Judge and rose to be the High court Judge President. He was in recent years appointed as a Supreme Court Judge by President Mnangagwa.

Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa is a Zimbabwean politician who is serving as President of Zimbabwe since 24 November 2017. A member of ZANU–PF and a longtime ally of former President Robert Mugabe,he held a series of cabinet portfolios and was Mugabe's Vice-President until November 2017,when he was dismissed before coming to power in a coup d'état. He secured his first full term as president in the disputed 2018 general election. Mnangagwa was re-elected in the August 2023 general election with 52.6% of the vote.

Lieutenant General Lookout Khalisabantu Vumindaba Masuku commanded the Zimbabwe People's Revolutionary Army (ZIPRA),the militant wing of the Zimbabwe African People's Union (ZAPU),during the Rhodesian Bush War. He served as the deputy commander of the Zimbabwe National Army until his arrest in 1982 for allegedly plotting to overthrow President Robert Mugabe.

However,he had already been serving as acting Chief Justice since 1 March 2017,following Justice Godfrey Chidyausiku‘s retirement. Previously,he had served as Deputy Chief Justice.

Bennie GoldinQC was a Byelorussian-born,Zimbabwean lawyer and judge. He was a justice of the Supreme Court of Zimbabwe from 1980 to 1981. Previously,he served on the High Court of Rhodesia from 1964 to 1980. Born in Nesvizh,Byelorussia,he grew up in Cape Town,immigrated to Salisbury after World War II,and later returned in 1981 to Cape Town where he served as a judge in Transkei.
Michael Theodore Hayes Auret was a Zimbabwean farmer,politician,and activist. A devout Catholic,he served as chairman and later director of the Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace in Zimbabwe (CCJP) from 1978 until 1999. He also served as a member of Parliament for Harare Central from 2000 to 2003,when he resigned and emigrated to Ireland.
