Anthony DiMaria (born 14 May 1966) is an American actor, producer, and director. He is also known for preserving the legacy of his uncle, Jay Sebring, [1] a pioneering stylist who was killed by members of the Manson Family in 1969, during what is now known as the Tate murders.
Anthony DiMaria was a 1984 graduate of Las Vegas' Bishop Gorman High School. In 1989, DiMaria earned his BFA at the University of Southern California (USC) School of Dramatic Arts. [2]
In both educational and professional capacities, Anthony DiMaria has worked Off-Broadway, Off-Off-Broadway, and in regional New York/Los Angeles theatres with The Barrow Group, Actors Studio, Neighborhood Playhouse, and Circle Rep LAB. [3] [4] In movies and TV, DiMaria has often played roles in soap operas ( One Life to Live and Guiding Light ), appeared in The Sopranos , [5] and made a feature film debut as Jam Kitchen in the Sundance hit The Pigeon Egg Strategy, shot in Hong Kong. Anthony DiMaria has further performed as Weldon Giles in Disney's Pixel Perfect and Howard Fox in Woody Allen's Café Society . [7] DiMaria also worked as characters in CSI (Primum Non Nocere episode), Strong Medicine (PMS, Lies, and Red Tape episode), HBO's The Leftovers (Penguin One, Us Zero episode), David Milch's Deadwood (and also John from Cincinnati ) [8] , along with Showtime's Ray Donovan . In 2020 Anthony DiMaria released the feature documentary Jay Sebring....Cutting to the Truth , [10] [11] which presented a platform to correct and illuminate Jay Sebring's life outside the Manson murders. [12] Distributed in North America by Shout Studios, [13] the documentary was a critical success [14] [15] [16] [17] and featured in-depth investigative interviews with Quincy Jones, Nancy Sinatra, Quentin Tarantino, [18] Dennis Hopper, and others. [19]
In his 2020 Los Angeles Times review, critic Michael Ordoña found Cutting To the Truth to be "an impressive directorial debut for actor Anthony DiMaria," noting its "stylish" presentation, and an "absorbing and passionate" narrative. [20]
Since 2004 Anthony DiMaria has represented his family and advocated for the Tate LaBianca family in the numerous parole hearings for Manson family members Patricia Krenwinkel, [21] [22] Charles Watson, [23] [24] Leslie Van Houten, [25] and Susan Atkins. [26] [27] DiMaria and his immediate family have continuously and unfailingly urged the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation to deny any and all parole or release to the remaining Manson group. [28] [29] [30] In one of Watson's parole hearings Anthony DiMaria commented, "These are troubled waters for many of us in here today and I would be remiss if I didn't state that I feel profound sorrow for all of us involved, and great sorrow for Mr. Watson."
In 2016, Anthony DiMaria urged the California Board to consider parole for Patricia Krenwinkel "when her victims are paroled from their graves".
In 2022, DiMaria spoke at Manson follower Bruce Davis' parole hearing, on behalf of families victimized by Davis' actions. DiMaria stated, "Bruce Davis remains in prison because his crimes were so severe and profound that they shook our country to its core, with permanent repercussions". Davis was denied parole. [31]
In 2023, Anthony DiMaria nationally expressed to CNN Anchor Laura Coates concerns with the parole release of Leslie Van Houten: "With her release now, any other violent criminal or killer whose crimes fall beneath the bar of (her) very extreme crimes---that also have historical impact---that opens the door for them. And it is our fear that the floodgates in the California penal system will be unhinged." [32]

Charles Milles Manson was an American criminal, cult leader and musician who led the Manson Family, a cult based in California, in the late 1960s. Some of the members committed a series of at least nine murders at four locations in July and August 1969. In 1971, Manson was convicted of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder for the deaths of seven people, including the film actress Sharon Tate. The prosecution contended that, while Manson never directly ordered the murders, his ideology constituted an overt act of conspiracy.
Sharon Marie Tate Polanski was an American actress and model. During the 1960s, she appeared in advertisements and small television roles before appearing in films as well as working as a model. After receiving positive reviews for her comedic and dramatic acting performances, Tate was hailed as one of Hollywood's most promising newcomers, being compared favorably with the late Marilyn Monroe.
Thomas John Kummer, known professionally as Jay Sebring, was an American celebrity hair stylist, and the founder of the hairstyling corporation Sebring International. Sebring was murdered by members of the Manson Family along with his ex-girlfriend Sharon Tate.
Patricia Dianne Krenwinkel is an American convicted murderer and former member of the Manson Family. During her time with Manson's group, she was known by various aliases such as Big Patty, Yellow, Marnie Reeves and Mary Ann Scott, but to The Family, she was most commonly known as Katie.

Susan Denise Atkins was an American convicted murderer who was a member of Charles Manson's "Family". Manson's followers committed a series of nine murders at four locations in California over a period of five weeks in the summer of 1969. Known within the Manson family as Sadie Mae Glutz or Sexy Sadie, Atkins was convicted for her participation in eight of these killings, including the most notorious, the Tate murders in 1969. She was sentenced to death, which was subsequently commuted to life imprisonment when the California Supreme Court invalidated all death sentences issued prior to 1972. Atkins was incarcerated until her death in 2009. At the time of her death, she was California's longest-serving female inmate, long since surpassed by fellow Manson family members Leslie Van Houten and Patricia Krenwinkel.
Leslie Louise Van Houten is an American convicted murderer and former member of the Manson Family. During her time with Manson's group, she was known by aliases such as Louella Alexandria, Leslie Marie Sankston, Linda Sue Owens and Lulu.
The Manson Family was a commune, gang, and cult led by criminal Charles Manson that was active in California in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The group at its peak consisted of approximately 100 followers, who lived an unconventional lifestyle, frequently using psychoactive drugs, including amphetamine and hallucinogens such as LSD. Most were young women from middle-class backgrounds, many of whom were attracted by hippie culture and communal living and then radicalized by Manson's teachings. The group murdered at least nine people, though they may have killed as many as 24.

Linda Darlene Kasabian was an American woman known for being a member of the Manson Family, a cult led by Charles Manson in late-1960s–early-1970s California. She was present at both the Tate and LaBianca murders committed by the cult in 1969, but received immunity for her testimony as a key witness in District Attorney Vincent Bugliosi's prosecution of Manson and his followers.
Charles Denton "Tex" Watson is an American murderer who was a central member of the "Manson Family" led by Charles Manson. On August 9, 1969, Watson, Patricia Krenwinkel, and Susan Atkins murdered pregnant actress Sharon Tate, Jay Sebring, Wojciech Frykowski, Abigail Folger, and Steven Parent at 10050 Cielo Drive in Benedict Canyon, Los Angeles. The next night, Watson traveled to Los Feliz, Los Angeles, and participated in the murders of Leno and Rosemary LaBianca. Watson was convicted of murder in 1971 and sentenced to death. As a result of a 1972 California Supreme Court decision on the constitutionality in the state of the death penalty, he avoided execution but has remained incarcerated ever since.
Robert Kenneth Beausoleil is an American murderer and associate of Charles Manson and members of his communal Manson Family. He was convicted and sentenced to death for the July 27, 1969, fatal stabbing of Gary Hinman, who had befriended him and other Manson associates. Beausoleil was later granted commutation to a lesser sentence of life imprisonment, after the Supreme Court of California issued a ruling that invalidated all death sentences issued in California prior to 1972.
Doris Gwendolyn Tate was an American activist for the rights of crime victims, and the mother of actress Sharon Tate. After Sharon Tate and several others were murdered by members of the Manson Family in 1969, Doris Tate began working to raise public awareness about the U.S. corrections system. She was influential in a court decision that amended California criminal laws relating to the rights of victims of violent crime.

The Helter Skelter scenario is an apocalyptic vision that was supposedly embraced by Charles Manson and members of his so-called Family. At the trial of Manson and three others for the Tate–LaBianca murders, the prosecution presented it as motivating the crimes and as an aspect of the case for conspiracy. Via interviews and autobiographies, former Family members related what they had witnessed and experienced of it.
Catherine Share is an American criminal who is known as a former member of the Manson Family; she was convicted of witness intimidation in relation to the 1970 trial of the Tate-LaBianca murders. In 1971 she was convicted of armed robbery and served five years. Share was not directly involved in the Tate-LaBianca murders, for which Charles Manson and some of his followers were convicted and originally sentenced to death. She served 90 days for witness intimidation.
Steven Dennis "Clem" Grogan is an American convicted murderer and former member of the Manson Family. He was released from prison in 1985.
Donald Jerome Shea, also known as "Shorty", was a Hollywood stuntman, actor and murder victim. The location of his body was discovered in 1977, eight years after his death. Manson Family leader Charles Manson and members "Clem" Grogan and Bruce M. Davis were eventually convicted of murdering Shea. Tex Watson was a possible participant in the murder, but was never charged.
The Tate–LaBianca murders were a series of murders perpetrated by members of the Manson Family during August 9–10, 1969, in Los Angeles, California, United States, under the direction of Tex Watson and Charles Manson. The perpetrators killed five people on the night of August 8–9: pregnant actress Sharon Tate and her companions Jay Sebring, Abigail Folger, and Wojciech Frykowski, along with Steven Parent. The following evening, the Family also murdered supermarket executive Leno LaBianca and his wife, Rosemary, at their home in the Los Feliz section of Los Angeles.
Jay Sebring....Cutting to the Truth is a 2020 American documentary film that studies Jay Sebring's life as the first international pioneer in the industry of men's style and hair. Cited as the inspiration for Warren Beatty's character in the 1975 film Shampoo, Jay Sebring's life ended at age 35 when he and four others were killed by the Manson family in what would become known as the Tate murders.
