The 2001 World Aquatics Championships or the 9th FINA World Swimming Championships were held in Fukuoka, Japan between 16 July and 29 July 2001.

The 2001 Women's World Water Polo Championship was the fifth edition of the women's water polo tournament at the World Aquatics Championships, organised by the world governing body in aquatics, the FINA. The tournament was held from 18 to 27 July 2001 in the Nishi Civic Pool, and was incorporated into the 2001 World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka, Japan.

The swimming events of the 2001 World Aquatics Championships were held in a temporary pool at Marine Messe in Fukuoka, Japan in July 2001. This edition of the championships featured 20 events for both men and women, including the introduction of a 50 m event in all strokes and equality in the distance freestyle events, with both men and women swimming both 800 and 1500 m.

The Women's 200 Breaststroke event at the 10th FINA World Aquatics Championships swam 24 – 25 July 2003 in Barcelona, Spain. Preliminary and semifinal heats swam on July 24, with the Final swum on July 25.

The Women's 50m Freestyle event at the 11th FINA World Aquatics Championships was swum 30 – 31 July 2005 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Preliminary heats and Semifinal heats were 30 July; the final was 31 July.

The 2023 World Aquatics Championships, the 20th edition of the World Aquatics Championships, were held in Fukuoka, Japan, from 14 to 30 July 2023. Originally scheduled to be held in 2021 as the 19th championships, the championships were postponed until May 2022 in response to the rescheduling of the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The event was pushed back a second time to 2023 due to ongoing travel restrictions and safety measures in place in Japan. In its place, Budapest hosted the 19th Championships from 18 June to 3 July 2022, while the originally scheduled 2023 championships in Doha, Qatar, were moved to 2024.

The 6th FINA World Junior Swimming Championships, was held in Indianapolis, United States. The championships were for girls aged 14–17 and boys age 15–18. Over 600 athletes from 90 different countries competed at the Championships.

Stefano Mitchell is a Antigua and Barbuda swimmer. He competed in the men's 50 metre butterfly event at the 2017 World Aquatics Championships. In 2019, he represented Antigua and Barbuda at the 2019 World Aquatics Championships held in Gwangju, South Korea and he finished in 62nd place in the heats in the men's 50 metre freestyle event.
