Antoinette Perry, OPEI (born 1953 or 1954) [1] is a Canadian former schoolteacher and the 29th lieutenant governor of Prince Edward Island since 2017,acting as the province's viceregal representative of King Charles III of Canada. She was appointed on September 14,2017,by Governor General David Johnston on the constitutional advice of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, [2] [3] [4] and was sworn in on October 20,2017,succeeding H. Frank Lewis. [5] Perry's swearing in ceremony took place in Tignish,Prince Edward Island,marking the first time a PEI lieutenant governor was sworn in outside of the province's capital,Charlottetown. Perry is an Acadian who taught as a schoolteacher for 32 years after attaining a bachelor's degree in music education at the Universitéde Moncton in 1976,and has also served as the church organist at St. Simon &St. Jude Church in Tignish. The history of Prince Edward Island covers several historical periods,from the pre-Columbian era to the present day. Prior to the arrival of Europeans,the island formed a part of Mi'kma'ki,the lands of the Mi'kmaq people. The island was first explored by Europeans in the 16th century. The French later laid claim over the entire Maritimes region,including Prince Edward Island in 1604. However,the French did not attempt to settle the island until 1720,with the establishment of the colony of Île Saint-Jean. After peninsular Acadia was captured by the British in 1710,an influx of Acadian migrants moved to areas still under French control,including Île Saint-Jean.

The 2019 Prince Edward Island general election was held to elect the members of the 66th General Assembly of Prince Edward Island. The vote in 26 of the 27 districts was held on 23 April 2019,while the vote for the member from Charlottetown-Hillsborough Park was deferred to 15 July due to the death of the Green Party's candidate. However,Charlottetown-Hillsborough Park still voted in a referendum on electoral reform. Natalie Jameson won the deferred election in the district.
