APIX is the world’s first cross-border, open architecture API marketplace and sandbox platform for collaboration between FinTechs and financial institutions in which participants can integrate and test solutions with each other via a cloud-based architecture. [1]

It brings together financial industry participants to discover, design and deploy innovative digital solutions within a collaborative ecosystem. [1]

History

The ASEAN Financial Innovation Network (AFIN) was established as a non-profit organization in 2018 by the ASEAN Bankers Association (ABA), International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, and the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS). AMTD Foundation and Mastercard are AFIN’s Corporate Founding Members. [1]

AFIN was set up with the mission to facilitate innovation and cooperation between financial institutions and FinTechs, in an effort to digitally transform the banking and financial sectors across the ASEAN region and beyond to ultimately drive financial inclusion. To support this mission, AFIN has launched the API Exchange (APIX). [1]

Launch

APIX was officially launched by Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India and Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Deputy Prime Minister of Singapore at the Singapore FinTech Festival in 2018. [10] [11] [12]

Development

APIX was developed by Boston-headquartered Virtusa with the help of its software engineers from Hyderabad, Colombo, and London. [10] [11] [12]

Global reach

The target market for APIX is the estimated two billion people who are without bank accounts around the world. [10] [11] [12]

APIX has been designed to help banking institutions in reaching out to more people without bank accounts across 23 nations, including 10 ASEAN members as well as major markets like India and nations like Fiji. [10] [11] [12]

APIX is expected to cater the needs of smaller banks and people living in Tier 3 and 4 cities and remote regions. [10] [11] [12]

Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana Financial scheme of the Indian government

Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana is a financial inclusion program of the Government of India open to Indian citizens, that aims to expand affordable access to financial services such as bank accounts, remittances, credit, insurance and pensions. This financial inclusion campaign was launched by the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi on 28 August 2014. He had announced this scheme on his first Independence Day speech on 15 August 2014.

Mann Ki Baat is an Indian radio programme hosted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in which he addresses the people of the nation on All India Radio, DD National and DD News. Since the first show on 3 October 2014, there have been 83 episodes. The 83rd episode has been aired on 28th November 2021.

Jeevan Pramaan is a Life Certificate program affiliated with Aadhaar for people with pensions. It was started by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 10 November 2014.

Financial technology Subset of technologies used in finance

Financial technology is the technology and innovation that aims to compete with traditional financial methods in the delivery of financial services. Artificial intelligence, Blockchain, Cloud computing, and big Data are regarded as the "ABCD" of FinTech. The Fintech industry is an emerging industry that uses technology to improve activities in finance. The use of smartphones for mobile banking, investing, borrowing services, and cryptocurrency are examples of technologies aiming to make financial services more accessible to the general public. Financial technology companies consist of both startups and established financial institutions and technology companies trying to replace or enhance the usage of financial services provided by existing financial companies. A subset of fintech companies that focus on the insurance industry are collectively known as insurtech or insuretech companies.

NITI Aayog Indian government think tank

The NITI Aayog serves as the apex public policy think tank of the Government of India, and the nodal agency tasked with catalyzing economic development, and fostering cooperative federalism through the involvement of State Governments of India in the economic policy-making process using a bottom-up approach. JAM trinity refers to the government of India initiative to link Jan Dhan accounts, mobile numbers and Aadhaar cards of Indians to plug the leakages of government subsidies.

Fintech Valley Vizag

Fintech Valley Vizag is an initiative of the Government of Andhra Pradesh to promote business infrastructure in the state, and attract investors and multinational corporations to set up offices. Fintech Valley was founded by N. Chandrababu Naidu then Chief Minister of the Andhra Pradesh state in December 2016 with the goal of enhancing Visakhapatnam City as a financial technology capital in Andhra Pradesh.

Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi

Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi is an initiative by the government of India in which all farmers will get up to 6,000 per year as minimum income support. The initiative was announced by Piyush Goyal during the 2019 Interim Union Budget of India on 1 February 2019. The scheme has cost 75,000 crore per annum and has come in effect from December 2018. 6000 per year will be paid to each eligible farmer in three instalments and will be deposited directly to their bank accounts.

Singapore FinTech Festival (SFF) is the largest FinTech festival in the world and a knowledge platform for the global FinTech community.
