The Ardley is a large coal field located in the western part of Canada in Alberta. [1] Ardley represents one of the largest coal reserve in Canada having estimated reserves of 596 billion tonnes of coal. [2]
Existence of coal in the area was noted as early as 1754 by Anthony Henday. [1]
The Ardley coalfield is located south of Alix, Alberta, along the banks of the Red Deer River.
The Scollard Formation is an Upper Cretaceous to lower Palaeocene stratigraphic unit of the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin in southwestern Alberta. Its deposition spanned the time interval from latest Cretaceous to early Paleocene, and it includes sediments that were deposited before, during, and after the Cretaceous-Paleogene (K-Pg) extinction event. It is significant for its fossil record, and it includes the economically important coal deposits of the Ardley coal zone.
Ardley is a hamlet in central Alberta, Canada within Red Deer County. It is located 3 kilometres (1.9 mi) west of Highway 21, approximately 40 kilometres (25 mi) east of Red Deer. The community's name may be a transfer from Ardley, England.
