Arend Dirk Glas (29 October 1968) is a Dutch bobsledder who has competed between 1992 and 2006.
Glas began his career in bobsledding in 1992 in Igls, Innsbruck in Austria. Competing in two Winter Olympic Games, he achieved his best finishing position of 16th both in the two-man event [1] at Salt Lake City in 2002 [2] and in the four-man event [3] at Turin in 2006. [4]
At the IBSF World Championships, Glas earned his best finish position of 12th in the two-man event at St. Moritz in the FIBT World Championships 2001. His best results in four-man were 4th in the European Championships in Cortina d'Ampezzo in 2001, and 5th in the overall world ranking of the 2001-2002 season. Glas retired after the 2006 Winter Olympics.
Glas holds a doctorandus degree in business economics and is the manager of Bobsleigh Support & Bobstart. [5] On 13 October 2019, Glas's partner, Bea Hekhuis, died of breast cancer.
During his 2002 Olympic qualification, Glas gained media attention when a 1998 accusation by anti-fascist research group Kafka resurfaced of his alleged membership of the far-right Centre Party '86. [6] [7] Faced with public scrutiny, Glas distanced himself from right-wing extremism. [8] In the run-up to the 2021 Dutch general election, however, he expressed support for the far-right Forum for Democracy following a scuffle with anti-fascist counter-protesters at a campaign rally in Groningen. Pierre Fritz Lueders is a Canadian Olympic, world and World Cup champion bobsledder who competed from 1990 to 2010. He piloted both two-man and four-man bobsleigh, retiring after the 2010 Winter Olympics. He was named to Canada's Sports Hall of Fame in 2012.
Alexandr Yuryevich Zubkov is a Russian retired bobsledder who has competed since 1999. Competing in four Winter Olympics, he won two medals with a silver in 2006 (four-man) and a bronze in 2010 (two-man). On 24 November 2017, he was found guilty of doping offences and stripped of his medals from the 2014 Winter Olympics.
Alexey Ivanovich Voyevoda is a Russian bobsledder, professional arm wrestler and politician.
Carsten Embach is a German bobsledder who competed from the mid-1990s to the early 2000s. Competing in two Winter Olympics, he won two medals in the four-man event with a gold in 2002 and a bronze in 1994.
Steven Paul Holcomb was an American bobsledder who competed from 1998 until his death in 2017. At the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, he won the four-man bobsled event for the United States, its first gold medal in that event since 1948. At the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, he finished second in both the four-man and two-man event.
Harald Czudaj is a German former bobsledder who competed during the 1990s. He competed in three Winter Olympics and won a gold medal in the four-man event at Lillehammer in 1994.

César González is a Dutch bobsledder born in the Dominican Republic. Gonzáles started with international bobsleigh competitions in the 2002-03 season. In January 2006 he qualified himself in the team of Arend Glas that several weeks earlier qualified for the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin. At the qualification play-off held in Oberhof, Germany he ended up in fourth position behind his opponents, resulting in qualification, but as a reserve bobsledder in case any of the other members faced an injury. Eventually he did not come in action during the Olympics, but he saw his team mates ending up at the 16th position.
Sybren Jansma is a Dutch bobsledder. Jansma started with international bobsleigh competitions in the 2002 and was not yet part of Arend Glas's team that participated at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. However, Jansma developed himself to become Glas's main compatriot in the years to follow in both the 2-bob as the 4-bob. In January 2006 Jansma qualified himself in the team of that several weeks earlier secured its qualification for the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin. At the qualification play-off held in Oberhof, Germany, he ended up in first position claiming his seat in both possible bobs. Together with Glas he became 19th after four runs in the 2-bob, while with Glas, Vincent Kortbeek and Arno Klaassen the 16th position was reached.

Klaassen started with international bobsleigh competitions in 2005 and therefore was not yet part of Arend Glas's team that participated at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. However, from 2005 on his skills improved fast and he became a regular member of the 4-bob. In January 2006 Klaassen qualified himself in the team of that several weeks earlier secured its qualification for the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin. At the qualification play-off held in Oberhof, Germany he ended up in second position, thus claiming his seat in the bob. Together with Glas, Jansma and Vincent Kortbeek he became 16th.
Vincent Kortbeek is a Dutch bobsledder. Kortbeek started with international bobsleigh competitions in 2003 and therefore was not yet part of Arend Glas's team that participated at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. However, from 2003 on his skills improved fast and he became a regular member of the 4-bob. In January 2006 Kortbeek qualified himself in the team of that several weeks earlier secured its qualification for the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin. At the qualification play-off held in Oberhof, Germany he ended up in third position (behind Sybren Jansma and Arno Klaassen claiming his seat in the bob. Together with Glas, Jansma and Klaassen he became 16th. His brother Thomas Kortbeek is an athlete.
Todd Dennys Hays is a former American bobsledder who competed from 1994 to 2006. Competing in two Winter Olympics, he won the silver medal in the four-man event at Salt Lake City in 2002, breaking a 46-year medal drought for the US national bobsleigh team.
Alan Charles Henderson is an English-born New Zealand bobsledder who competed from 1990 to 2006.
Pavle Jovanovic was an American bobsledder of Serbian origin who had competed since 1997. At the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, he finished seventh both in the two-man event and in the four-man event. Although on the U.S. Bobsled team in 2002, he was disqualified from competing due to the presence of prohibited substances from food supplements, which he claimed were taken without his knowledge or intent.
The Utah Olympic Park Track is a bobsleigh, luge, and skeleton track in the United States, located in the Utah Olympic Park near Park City, Utah. During the 2002 Winter Olympics in nearby Salt Lake City, the track hosted the bobsleigh, luge, and skeleton events. Today the track still serves as a training center for Olympic and development level athletes and hosts numerous local and international competitions. It is one of two national tracks; the other is at Mt. Van Hoevenberg near Lake Placid, New York.
Thierry Henri Philippe Baudet is a Dutch politician, author, and self-declared conspiracy theorist. He is the founder and leader of the far-right Forum for Democracy (FvD), for which he has been a member of the House of Representatives since 2017. He serves as the party's parliamentary leader. A controversial politician due to his political views, as well as his use of personal attacks against his opponents, he was physically assaulted twice while campaigning in 2023.
The Magyar Sziget festival is a nationalist festival organised in the Hungarian city of Verőce, by the Sixty-Four Counties Youth Movement (HVIM) under the leadership of László Toroczkai. In 2015 the location was changed to Velence. The name itself is an example of the feeling of isolation of Hungary. It can be seen as a metaphor for the 'island' of Hungary within a sea of non-Finno-Ugric languages. The festival is not to be confused with the 'normal' Hungarian Sziget festival.
Forum for Democracy is a far-right political party in the Netherlands, founded as a think tank by Thierry Baudet and Henk Otten in 2016. The party first participated in elections in the 2017 general election, winning two seats in the House of Representatives.
Henk Otten is a Dutch politician and economist. He has been a member of the Senate since June 2019. He was the co-founder of the party Forum for Democracy (FvD) along with Thierry Baudet. He served as FvD treasurer from 2016 to 2019.
Anti-fascist research group Kafka, commonly abbreviated to Kafka, is a Dutch anti-fascist and far-left research group, founded by Hans van Drunen. Its name was said to be an acronym for Kollektief Anti-Fascistisch/-Kapitalistisch Archief before 1994, but the research group has since indicated that they had named themselves after the writer Franz Kafka.
